What's new

Turkish Naval Programs

1st submarine of Reis class will enter service in early 2023 after which one submarine will enter service every year until all 6 have been delivered.

STM-500 has started construction for the first submarine which will enter service in 2026.

MILDEN will start construction in 2026.
There is no mass production decision for the STM-500 yet. However, there is a high expectation that this project will turn into a procurement program. Probably STM will act with a private shipyard at that stage. Gölcük command's submarine shipyard is moving towards much more challenging and detailed areas.

The master plan is as follows:
  • Modernization of 2 AY Class Submarines (2016)
  • Mid-Life Modernization Program of 4 PREVEZE Class attack Submarines (2022-2024)
  • Procurement program of 6 REIS class, AIP attack submarines (2022-2027)
  • 6 MILDEN (National submarine program), strategic attack capable submarine procurement program (2030+)
  • Mid-Life Modernization Program of 4 GÜR class attack Submarines (2030?)

Apart from these, I guess that the other programs that will emerge will progress through different institutions, not within the Gölcük Command. Currently, there is not only the STM-500 project, but also the studies of mini submarines in the unmanned class continue. There are also concept development projects in the form of semi-submersibles or submarines in some other special classes.

Starting from the post 2033 period, the Turkish naval forces submarine fleet will reach 20 attack submarines so will have started the period of expansion. Excluding unmanned systems, the expectation is to reach 24 active submarines in the 2030s, with the procurement of midget attack submarines.

I seriously doubt how effective an operation Hürjet can provide in the current deck layout. However, in any case, it is very important and valuable to start working in this field. The only way to get things is to learn to do it by our own efforts and own platforms.

There are some technical difficulties of course but if we succeed with HURJET on TCG ANADOLU ,we will gain experience to operate real aircraft carrier in the future

A hook system will be fitted to ANADOLU to catch the HURJET while landing.
but what about take off ? ANADOLU's flight deck is shorter than real Aircraft Carriers

HURJET needs initial speed to take off ...
at the end of the day , HURJET can meet the operational needs of the Turkish Navy

to be used effectively in air to surface missions
to provide ISR assistance to the task group

Turkiye could not deploy F-16s in Libya ( Al Watiya ) but We can deploy TCG ANADOLU which can provide air support with HURJET

I agree the HURJET might not be ideal for carriers but it gets the ball rolling

the development might take years and at the end of it Turkey might even abandon the programme like China did with JL-10 Carrier variant but then did well with J15

So same goes for Turkey start working on a carrier jet programme get the technological knowledge and apply it later even after a decade

also Turkey can start a fixed wing aviation school and in 10 years they will be at the right stage

however if the Kizilima UCAV can have a naval version it would be a huge milestone

both manned and unmanned naval programmes will be beneficial

The naval version of SIPER will be quadpack. I-class frigates will operate with a combination of 16x4 ESSM-B2 and SIPER B1/B2.

150km variant of SIPER is coming soon.

Blok-1 will be in active service in 2023.

There is an intense foreign demand.

Finally, the expected breakthrough in long range air defense systems is taking place. It is an incredible achievement to make such an important step in such a short time. The better thing is that the system has been in foreign demand since the first block, so development costs have come almost for free.

The next target in SIPER is now ABM capability acquisition.

A great coordination was established between ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK-SAGE and Roketsan. Very soon, this unity will show itself in other systems as well. This cooperation enabled Turkiye to develop the layered air defense network, which started with SUNGUR and continued with HİSAR-A+, HİSAR-O+ and HİSAR-RF, and crowned with SİPER, with its own means.

There is also a fast attack boat in the video which designed for the Azerbaijani navy' needs.

You forgot that SIPER will be quidpacked. So we can use it like this, 8 cell for 16 SIPER and 32 ESSM. When LEVENT is finished for point defence we can have 21 RAM missile looka like. Greece will have heavy frigat and we will light and cheap several I class.

P-72 Maritime Patrol Aircraft from the Turkish Naval Forces also participates in the TURAZ exercise in Azerbaijan. The detection capabilities of the Ocean Master 400 radar and the DR-3000 Electronic Support system in the P-72 MPA are being evaluated for air defense systems such as the S-300 PMU-2, BUK-MB and BARAK-8 in the Azerbaijan army inventory.

ATAK helicopters with RFJ Pods are also participating in the exercise.

The fact that Azerbaijan's air defense inventory and technical supporters in air defense and countermeasures are Israel provides us with a very valuable exercise environment for another theater. @Oublious

'Optical Communication System equipment developed in cooperation with STM-Bahçeşehir University will be equipped on the STM-500 (sail section) and SDV, thus enabling (unpredictable) communication up to 75m underwater. (In 2019, there is some in-detail post of me, on this optical communicition studies in the PDF forum, There is also a thread about the project.)

The STM500 Mini Submarine, which is 42 meters long, weighs 485 tons above water and 542 tons when submerged, will have a cruising speed of 5 knots under water with batteries, and a maximum cruising speed of 18+ knots.

It will be able to cruise 3,500nm with diesel engines and 75nm with Lithium Ion batteries. AIP optional, can be added according to user request. With Diesel+AIP, the cruising range is predicted to be 4,000nm. Discussions and studies on the use of domestic steel sheet in the STM500, which can operate at a depth of 250m+, continue.

The submarine, which can stay at sea for 30 days, will be able to fire guided missiles from underwater as well as AKYA and DM2A4 HWTs, since 2 of the 4 21 inch 533mm torpedo launch tubes will have Weapon Expulsion System (WES) capability. The STM500, which will have the capacity to carry 8 torpedoes and guided missiles, will also be equipped with a mine-laying capability.
