Turkey retires 40 Generals & Admirals accused of plotting coup

No one in their sane mind can deny the economic progress Turkey has experienced during the AKP, which is also the reason they won people's confidence, 50% in a democracy is a great achievement whether you like it or not, and being elected 3 terms is historic.
Though i also have to acknowledge other dark sides about the current government. They are almost fully controlling the judiciary, the media, education, police and almost the military etc. Not much different from the former "kemalist" governments. But their economic achievements cannot even be compared with AKP's, we also have to grant them that.

We need to look at the political landscape pragmatically and not emotionally.

What à bullcrap dude your talk is based on manipulatief propaganda lies. There is not such à thing You describe. In 2002 mhp created à plan That restructure THE economy of Turkey but short after that there was Elections. And THE only thing That akp did was sitting on THE package of mhp. and now You are pride that akp brought THE economy up? By What dude?

During the Ecevit government Turkey experienced extreme economic downturn so they brought in Kemal Dervis and his help package. It helped our economy considerably, we know that, it had absolutely nothing to do with mhp, mhp is quite frankly a joke of a party have you ever listened to Bahceli :)
That AKP steered the economy succesfully cannot be disregarded by anyone. In terms of professionalism i don't think any other party currently has a better team than AKP. I don't say this because i am their lapdog, i couldn't give anything about them since they don't fill my pocket.

Can't it create moral deficit in army at such a volatile time in region and vacuum at senior level ....

Dude you post here only the media propaganda. The truth is that MHP recovered the economy with their own package. Dervis just made his analizes and his IMF politics. AKP came and took over the already recovered economy by MHP and after that the numbers did only grow nothing else more. Turkey is so called 17th of world but how many people work for minimum wage? Better say, whats the minimum wage of Turkey? What are the rental rates of Turkey? What are the prices of food, meat, gasoline etc? You really think that all these prices are just same as 30 years ago? Ofc not. If economy grow, the price of products and rental rates will rise to. So nothing change in fact. In fact, Turkish economy in overall is not even independece thanks to the diehard neoliberal politics.

The banks, seaports, raw materials, sources, telecommunication companies etc. etc. all are sold to foreign enterprises. Just like how Ozal did. When a anti america government comes, they just use their economic coup and fools like you think ohh look these parties ruined the economy.. Man dont be stupid and open your eyes.

Dont be pride of a economy that is nothing else but number manipulation. Turkey is nothing.

@ revojam and TurAr;
you do not seem to understand the nature of mainstream sunni islam----as I have said elsewhere,
from the sunni perspective islam promises that people will get what they work for - look around you it is proved day in day out -
as for the fourteen centuries old system argument - islam offers principles - they are eternal - how people, at the individual and collective (community) level interpret and implement them is up to them......and then they get what the worked for!
all histories of the prophets life (serat un nabi) agree that he was invited to medina tun nabi (yathrib).....all parties agreed to his coming....a agreement was articulated once he got there defining rules etc.---what I am trying to say is the government was set up with the consent of the people -muslim and non muslim....

@ TurAr ...just curious ----is the name an abbreviation for TURkish ARyan.......?

Turkey is not a country like Pakistan which you can ignore people's demands just because they are minority, that is why most of Pakistanis are seeing Turkey as a model. Turkey is not a country that you can dictate your beliefs on others with ease. There are lots of people working for more freedom in Turkey and not going to bend with the pressure of backwards.

Minority? You are underestimating our power :triniti:

I think it you my friend who is underestimating the power of Democracy.

The Generals were rightly retired for disobeying their superior civilian Govt. and trying to undermine the authority of a constitutionally and democratically elected Govt.

You have a weird concept of Freedom because FREEDOM does not mean ANARCHY. You have to exercise freedom within the parameters of existing laws and the law is that military is subservient to the democratically elected Govt.

It is frustrating and useless to argue with these Kemalist lot as they dont operate from logic but from their stance of misplaced loyalty to military.

You are still talking about democracy, why dont you read my posts and then check the facts and come back to tell us how democratic the AKP is? Arent you the prof from New York? Show us that you're worth being called a academic and scrutinize, dont just accept what people are telling you as a fact.

If you're really caring about democracy and not just using it as a way to justify the persecution of good human beings, then there is no other way but to confess that things got worse in Turkey.

In the post above this one you're claiming that its hard to argue with Kemalists and yet you dont, you can't fool no one. Why don't you and Zulk get a room?

Nope

You guys are really something. You talk about democracy and support a military who time and again tried to overthrow a democratically elected government. Sorry folks but we aint in the 60'ies any more.

You can't fool anyone, you are probably the least democratic person in here with your hatred against Kemalism, secularism and most importantly you put your religion before the constitution. Needless to say that Islam an Democracy don't work. So who are you trying to fool?
