Turkey issues diplomatic note to Syria over mission attacks

I need to ask you, off topic. Is this true Gadaffi government support Turkey in the past when no other countries including Pakistan gave support to Turkey ? That's what my Turkish colleague told me...

Also, she said Turkey doing favor for US to overthrow Syria Assad ? She doesn't seem to condemn the current situations in Syria. Correct me if she is wrong.
Gaddafi support for Turkey? Gaddafi despised Turkey for its secular system.
About Syria, Turkey correctly standing with the history, that is, end of dictatorships in Middle East. It's Turkey's best interest to deal with democracies than to deal with dictators. Can anyone blame Turkey for this reasoning?

Yes, it is great way to deal with democracies same goes to Pakistan. Dictators for thirty or forty years is unacceptables. So you mean, Gadaffi didn't support Turkey in the past, is this correct?

She felt sad Gadafi gone now due to the extensive supports for Turkey, huh. In contrast, Pakistan didn't like Gadaffi at all, I disagree with her except PKK/Kurdish issues.

Gaddafi supported Turkey in 1974 just after Turkey's "Cyprus Peace Operation". There was a military embargo of "Western Allies" on Turkey because of the operation. Situation between Greece and Turkey was very close to a war, we needed some equipment for the army and we asked Iran and Iraq, Iraq said no and Iran sold some useless equipment but addressed Gaddafi, then we asked him and he said "send your technicians , check our stocks and I will give what ever you need" , and he did what he said. 4 DC9 cargo planes full of critical equipment.

When our goverment offered to pay he said "I don't want any money".

So it is true, and Colonel Gaddafi did not deserve this shamefull death. Shame on his killers.

^^Thank you for explanation, it make sense. I agree, the way Gaddafi deserved to this death by the own people, it should be honor exit. Regarding how she feel, I guess, it must be sad for other Turkish too.

And I don't know why she didn't say anything about Pakistan, when I tried to discuss the best relations between Turkey/Pakistan. It stuck me when she explained about Gaddafi's past extensive supports to Turkey.

This is completely inaccurate. Ecevit government wanted to get oil from Gaddafi during 70's oil embargo on west. After the delivery of oil, Gaddafi sent a big bill to Ankara. If you count business as support, yea, it was a support o_O

No it is not inaccurate, story is told by Ambassador (Ret) Taner Baytok to journalist Tufan Turenc, and published by Mr. Turenc in Hurriyet Newspaper. Another witness is Mr. Deniz Baykal, who was Finance Minister of Republic of Turkey those days. All alive and no refutation.

Here is the link of Mr Turenc's article (In Turkish) :www dot hurriyet dot com dot tr/yazarlar/17115996_p.asp (I can not post links due to be a newbie :)

Hmm.. Interesting anecdote. Well, even if this is true, which probably is according to witnesses, this doesn't change the fact that he didn't support Turkey like Turkey supports Azerbaijan or USA supports Israel. He may have some love for Turkish Army, as he has graduated from TAF in 1960, but not for Turkish state and later experiences with him clearly portrays his attitude towards Turkey.

Sir, thank you for references, I appreciate. My Turkish colleague also expressed, Turkey in predict near future will be out of control disagreements between military officers and governments. Also mention, it is very hard to live in Turkey which is not safe. Despite the growing economy, government seek rich wealthy and doesn't seem interest to improve low class people.

She recommend that I can visit Turkey tourist especially Istanbul only, not living there.

What a bunch of bullshit your friend told you then. Who is this friend of yours that says it is unsafe to live in Turkey? And that the government doesn't want to improve the low class? Most importantly how can you trust such a dilusioned person's words? Istanbul is unsafe to live? You can't travel other Turkish cities? I wish i could meet this idiot face to face and teach him a lesson.

Turkey and France call for increased pressure on Syria

18 November 2011, Friday / TODAY’S ZAMAN , ANKARA

Foreign Minister Davutoğlu met with his French counterpart Juppé in Ankara

The Turkish and French foreign ministers, meeting in Ankara on Friday, called for greater international pressure on Syria as a government crackdown on anti-regime protesters in Turkey's southern neighbor escalates.

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé has said his country opposes any unilateral intervention against Syria, insisting any such move should be mandated by the UN. At the joint press conference held after the two ministers had a tete-a-tete meeting, Juppé called on the UN Security Council to act against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, saying the time has come to toughen sanctions against Syria over its brutal crackdown on civilians. Juppé, who said France wanted to work with the Arab League and Turkey as well as the Syrian opposition, has expressed doubt on whether Syria would respond positively to an Arab League peace plan proposal.

His Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoğlu, has said pressure on Syria needs to be increased to stop the bloodshed, starting with economic sanctions. He also added, upon a question whether Turkey would support a no-fly zone over Syria, that there might be a need to enforce some measures if Syria continues its crackdown on civilians.

Recalling that Turkey and Syria had close ties in the past, and that Turkey has made many efforts to convince Assad to end the violence, Davutoğlu expressed his frustration with the Syrian regime which, he said, not only has turned a deaf ear to all calls of reform coming from Turkey and the world, but also, and most importantly, opened fire on his own people instead of listening to their demands. The issue that is of utmost importance in Syria is to put an end to the violence, Davutoğlu said and explained Turkey’s position on the matter: “At the moment the most important proposal is the one suggested by the Arab League, according to which the Arab League would send observers to Syria to inspect the withdrawal of soldiers from the cities. If this initiative by the Arab league, which Turkey also supports, does not get a positive response, then some sanctions will be necessary.”

Juppé said the EU was planning to toughen the sanctions already in place against Syria’s economic assets and some people in Syria, and added that the EU countries have already agreed to apply sanctions in such a way that the ordinary people in Syria would not be affected adversely. Expressing his doubt about Syria accepting the Arab League’s proposals, Juppé said, “We are not in favor of a unilateral intervention, and should any military action be needed then that should be mandated by the UN Security Council.” But according to Associated Press, a senior Syrian official said on Friday that Syria agreed “in principle” to allow an Arab League observer mission into the country, but Damascus was still studying the details.
