The United States spends more on its military than rest of the top 15 nations with the highest military expenditure. The list is

US($698 billion)
China ($119 bn)
UK ($59.6 bn)
France ($59.3bn)
Russia ($58.7bn)
Japan ($54.5bn)
Germany ($45.2bn)
Saudi Arabia ($45.2bn)
India ($41.3bn)
Italy ($37bn)
Brazil ($33.5bn)
South Korea ($27.6bn)
Australia ($24bn)
Canada ($22.8bn)
Turkey ($17.5bn)

--------------------------------

India spends only $41.3bn. Putty for its size. Countries such as UK and France who don't even have enemies spend more than India does. India should increase its defense budget taking into account the largeness of the country and rivals it has in this region.

What is your take on this?

what is Canada spending so much for... who's going to attack them anyways.

UK and France has threats them to, terror and international operations.

We spend almost as much as Germany does but in order to get the real power you should take half of what we spend out of the equation because we don't make it ourself and thus buy it in double the Price. I really hope this changes soon.

i was quite suprised that Saudi uses way much more than Turkey... and all the money you spend is pretty much bought from other countries... so yeah, use less. there isn't a rush. take your time and invest in companies from Saudi Arabia that has a future in the defence sector.

or have the armed force open a defence sector that can work on their need...

You see the sector responsible for military production in Saudi Arabia responsible for military industry only opened in 2009. Also private companies were allowed to participate and make weapons etc which is not a government entity were allowed to operate only earlier this year. So yeah we are only now finally doing something but since the door is opened I guess it will take a few years still before our military industry unveils their stuff.

Previously there was only a council reposnisble for study to make purchases that is it.

Unbelievable India spending is 2.5% and yet indians here want to increase it further.

Keep in mind those numbers cannot be compared directly, - China, Russia, Iran, etc. are making weapons themselves. This cost reduction doesnt apply to US btw, they buy weapons from private companies at normal prices, even subsidizing R&D from budget if needed.

i think that this is not a good approach that if other people are spending more then we should also spend more while ignoring all other aspects mainly which is that u r a nuclear power and the probability of a war of a nuclear power country with anyone is almost zero
and also instead of thinking that we should spend more.. you should also think something about peace and talks with rivals

Its all common sense, but in reality it doesnt work this way. Country leaders (and powerful corporations behind them) are interested in increasing their power and influence, along with profits. They couldnt care less who suffers because of it, even if its their own country.
