8月13日晚，天津滨海区，大批爆炸事故疏散的人员被安置在滨海新区开发区第二小学安置点。8月12日天津港瑞海公司危险品仓库特别重大火灾爆炸事故发生后，滨海新区开发区第二小学成为一处安置点。据了解，目前这里已容纳超过500名伤员及被疏散的人员。陈瑞实/CFP

Tianjin blast: Hospitals spare no effort to treat patients

The Tianjin warehouse explosions that devastated an area of the city on Wednesday night has killed 50 people and injured 701, so far.

The wounded people have been sent to local hospitals, and according to experts, most of them are suffering from bone fractures, cuts and bruises caused by the shockwaves of the explosions. Around 70 people are in serious condition.

The blast site is incredibly close to several large residential neighborhoods, with the closest just about 600 meters away.

The nearby Tianjin Fifth Central Hospital opened a green channel for patients, and all of its medical staff have been mobilized to give treatment. Three batches of medical professionals from Beijing's hospitals, including Beijing Medical College Hospital have also been called in to assist.

Volunteers have flooded to the hospital to offer food and water to the injured and their families.

"We didn't get any sleep, as soon as we learned about the accident. We communicated on Wechat, and people kept coming to the hospital to offer help. Volunteers started to drive the injured to different hospitals from this morning," said a volunteer.

In addition to staff from the Intensive Care Unit, Orthopedics Department and Burn Department, psychologists are also comforting patients and their families.

"We will make full use of the best local hospitals, and do our best to treat the injured and reduce deaths. We will transfer the patients to suitable hospitals after examination, and invite experts to come here if the patients cannot be moved. We will guarantee the best treatment for everyone," said Li Zhengmao, emergency division head of the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

Late on Thursday night, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong visited hospitals where the injured firefighters and residents were being treated. She urged authorities to ensure the injured, especially those in critical condition, be treated in a timely and proper manner with the best medical resources. Liu called for psychological support and counseling service for the injured, the victims' families, and rescuers.
