Others' eating around me while I am fasting is hardly a matter of respect or disrespect ......... what matters more is my steadfastness, patience and restraint. I don't even see any element of disrespect in there? How someone eating is disrespect to me? Why should I be bothered?

The point I am trying to make is that If someone did want to eat, they wouldn't do it in your face. Otherwise, they would be antagonizing people.

By the way, Ramzan teaches us patience, tolerance and self control. Then why is everyone crying about all of this? If you can't even control yourself when somebody eats in front of you, what's the use of the fast that you're keeping? Food for thought (no pun intended).

No , You might be thinking this law is passed with the same intention as the blasphemy law. Basically as a deterrent to avoid vigilante behaviour by the people. But in reality the effect of this will be completely different. Before when someone ate in public they used to get scowled at or maybe given a remark or two, now people will have a reason to take this behaviour one step further because now even the law tolerates this behaviour.

I agree.
But the govt. has to take into account everything that goes on in the society.
Laws are therefore for deterrence and misuse is more due to corruption.
The more intolerant the society the more strict the laws would be.

Although in practice such laws are not needed and this is more of a result of hue and cry from the 'emotions brigade'.
