This Is What the Modi Sarkar Has Done to Indian Muslims

First, a personal statement.

I am now deathly scared even to open my mouth. A caustic remark about Shekhar Gupta, whom I admire and follow, but who made a cake of himself in a recent video, was taken personally by a member, who then, to my unmitigated horror, proceeded to accept the imagined rebuke humbly.

It seems safest to be a mute observer.

Coming to your immediate point, I agree totally. We have to keep some civility and courtesy inter se, and ensure that we do not cover each other with mud. You have my commitment to that.

With regard to obsessional Pakistanis, that is an environmental hazard, and even with the best goodwill and positive support from the administration, it is difficult to see what to do about that. They are of the firm and fixed opinion that they are acting legitimately in defence of 'their' forum, defending themselves against unwanted aliens; what on earth can be done about this?

They even had a thread on this theme.

I will go along with any reasonable course of action suggested by you others.

[Edit.] FIRST, continue this discussion on a new thread; we are technically off-topic on this one.

Great, at least we have agreement on a few points. Let us have civility and courtesy on all common threads pertaining to India, especially the internal politics.

Secondly I have absolutely no issue of having Pakistani viewpoint on an internal Indian thread. They have their interests which is perfectly understandable. Technically, even I'm not Indian anymore. But non-Indian posters should not impose their non-Indian point of view on threads internal to India. Pakistani posters need to keep in mind that India is by definition, a secular state (even though the country is undergoing hardships under Sanghi). I have never met any Indian Muslims who are opposed to that ideal. Certainly, not here.

They don't realize that their Pakistani point of view is sometimes very offensive to us. Hardly any Indian Muslims want to create mini-Pakistans out of India. Also, in this very thread, I have seen some Pakistani posters insinuate that Indian Muslims aren't Muslim enough. That's very offensive I believe.

In the end, we either have a forum, or we don't. We need this forum to discuss burning issues of India. And I urge all Indian posters to maintain decorum. No more Islamophobic or Pakistan-phobic posts here for starters.

Only God know if we can keep this forum sane. But let's give it a try.

Do you have a small list in mind ?

P.S : Perhaps in the 'Whatever' thread we can discuss.

I have named only the posters I have interacted with here. If there are others, feel free to add them in that "whatever" thread. Make sure it is separate from all other extra threads. We can come with a code of conduct for Indian posters (or anyone of Indian origin such as myself), and even sticky it with mod help if necessary.

Just tag me if you or anyone else is doing it.

I don't want precious threads concerning burning issues of India to be lost in the troll circus. It hurts us eventually.

.
Each and every nice thread is going to dogs because so many posters have their own axes to grind.

Can we have an internal code of conduct at least among the Indian posters to prevent this derailing? I am talking to you and @Joe Shearer, @jamahir and any other sane Indian posters here.

This is a thread on an internal problem of India. Some Pakistani posters have turned this to about themselves.

I welcome all opinions, as long as they are made in a civil manner, along with conciseness and context. All our opinions have changed over the years, and I am sure everyone is here to hear a different point of view.

Sometimes, what I feel is that we are unable to express ourselves clearly, and those writings are often misinterpreted.

Yes, that's part of it. People should stop being reactionary over every tiny remark. It's never personal. I believe that at least if all Indian posters (or at least 7-8 of us) stick to a well-defined code of conduct, we can use it to ensure other Indian posters fall in line. We cannot control non-Indian posters (nor should we as we are in a Pakistani forum).

I come to this website to discuss the burning issues of India, and every single day they get derailed. If this is how it's going to be, and if we're not going to have a code of conduct in the future, then I should stop contributing. Then others will also follow suit. It will be back to a jungle.

Whatever it is, someone please take initiative and define a code of conduct. Any of you posters do it, the rest of us will follow.

@Joe Shearer you're the captain, please define a code of conduct in a separate thread and I assure you at least 7-8 of us Indian posters will follow it, and stick to that.

It's rather simple. We either have a forum, or we don't.

I will - very reluctantly - do this, but it will have to wait an hour, and will be on another thread, specific to that purpose.

Could I suggest - as a start - these members?

Don't worry, you have my support. Do it whenever you find time. There's no hurry. Just tag all the Indian posters who you believe are sane. As well as a few mod's close to you.

Make it 10-bulleted points. My suggestions are as follows:
1) No Islamohobic/Hinduphobic remarks by any Indian posters (with an example as to what crosses the line)
2) No profanity. The "f's" and "b's" can be used tastefully, but should be very rare.
3) Having civilized friendly behavior to all Pakistanis on this forum. We are on their forum, and we should be grateful. There's nothing wrong with that.

You can make it 10-point or 20 points as per your experience on this forum. We can also brainstorm for suggestions. Keep it very easy to read so that everyone can understand in simple English.

It's not rocket science. I want every single discussion to be a repository of useful information. Another idea that I have is that if a topic has been beaten to death (like a dead horse), then I want someone like Joe to have the authority to work with the mod's to close that thread temporarily. Especially if that precious thread has a chance to be lost to troll fests.

Thank you for reading

Great I agree with this list. Hopefully all these users can be persuaded to help out in our aims. It doesn't matter how often, or how less you post here, I want to make sure that whenever I post on this forum, I am only greeted by civilized debate. Enough of troll fests!

I emphatically decline that responsibility, on the grounds of my hasty temper and very high BP (it has kept me on my back for five days in the last week). But yes, we have to share that burden among ourselves; let us come to that. And we have to have the support of the administration for whatever we try to hold up as an ideal for conduct. Remember, that has to be voluntary and internal; it cannot be enforced.

Yes, and it is up.

Sure there is no pressure. It's voluntary that's why it's called a "code". Anyone in future who violates the code seriously, will be reprimanded gently by us.

I don't want the Admin's and Mod's to get involved unless we can first get this code working among us 10-12 users, as a starter. For the time being, the code only applies to us. Give it a month, and after that we will make it more stringent.

The code doesn't mean that the freedom of expression is gone. On the contrary, we can always expect civilized debates in the future. So it's for everyone's benefits.

Here is my "John Henry". Whatever that is supposed to mean. Please define the 10- or 20- bulleted points. in a separate thread. Everyone's suggestions are welcome as to what is not acceptable.

Let's do it!

. . . . . .
Go ahead. We're trying to build consensus. These will be common sense rules: no questioning anyone's nationality, no personal attacks, no religious attacks, no profanity.
Never indulged in any of that, apart from this one time.. but that was also partly in jest.

Also, have you completely lost sight and situational awareness of where we happen to be ?

They'll treat you like garbage and start banning you drop of a hat for whenever someone here feels like it the second you start behaving a bit more reasonably.. which is to say, not hate India.

.
Stop whining. You're on a Pakistani forum. Of course they hate India here, what else do you expect? LOL, if you don't want to be banned, just join the code of conduct team. I will personally help you (although I hate your brand of politics) to settle here nicely.
I expect there to be some reasonable amount of fairness.

"Of course they hate India here, what else do you expect? LOL"

- how is that any different to some "sanghi" saying, "of course we hate them, what do you expect ? LOL"

I like talking to people from across the fence in a civil way and reading about peoples' anecdotes, from both sides.. human stories, that's where you learn, not from your garbage collection of lefty rags you listed there lol
