THE YOM KIPPUR WAR : THE ALGERIAN CONTRIBUTION

In war no one wins.

In the end, Egypt showed they could compete with Israel? Israel already knew that Egypt was the priority threat to Israel and it knew that the Syrians would only wage war if Egypt had declared war itself.

Sadat wanted to use the beachheads on the Eastern Sinai as cards to force a negotiation by Israel. A negotiation for what? Peace, return of the Sinai, freedom for Palestine?

Israel made it clear to Egypt they'll return the Sinai if Egypt negotiated peace. That offer was available to Syria also, with the Golan Heights.

I don't know the specifics of the Peace Accords to go further. But it was specifically agreed that:

Egypt would not blockade the Eilat Port,
Or bar Israeli merchant/ naval ships from transiting the Suez Canal,
Joint agreement on the number and position of soldiers in Sinai.

The Future for Palestine would be negotiated between Israel and Palestinians without referencing who the 'Palestinian' party would be. A face-saving measure for Sadat.

So in the end Egypt got the Sinai and Jordan gave up it's claim for West Bank. So much for Arab Unity.

That is, unless the Egyptian Government decided to wage war, win something, to pacify any opposition to peace. Then that's brilliant.
we were in a bad place before the war we wanted our land back also a military victory we needed that after the 6 day war peace was on sadat mind long before the war in the end we got all that

you left me speechless you know that song that is exactly what happened to me when I read your post.
advice: think before you post THINK BEFORE YOU POST.
You sir claimed that the israelis mounted a successful air strike that hit our airfields which is completely incorrect thus was my post to prove that the operation was a big failure as the egyptain expected that attack. the israelis were dedected and the egyptains were ready for them and the israeli tactics to distract the egyptains didn't work. Instead they got a massive airbattle that they couldn't win no matter how many aircrafts they send in.
SO tell me again how do your links relate to the topic we are discussing ( by the way can't see how they show Israeli victories)

Ofira Airbase, 41 MiGs of which 7 were shot down by 2 F-4s that took off from the airbase the MiGs came to destroy.......

Op. Tagar was supposed to be a 3-4 wave attack. Each wave had their own objectives. AA Guns & SAMs, Air Fields. Your correct the Israelis wanted to eliminate the threat of each variable during each wave. But each wave wad code named 1,2,3,4. The Israeli command decided to eliminate the Airbases before taking out the SAMs/AAs, to everyone's surprise.

Sure the airbases were left damaged and quickly repaired. But the Egyptians placed quite a few of their own planes in defense over the Northern Coast.

42 Years ago..Arabs got a very good spanking from a country much smaller than their size...in land mass and in manpower...

and you believe everything you read(them claiming it doesn't make it true).
There are a couple of reasons I wouldn't believe that theory first of all how can 2 f-4 defend their airbase against 41 migs (obviously the base got destroyed) the israeli didn't mention what happened to the base or the aircraft after that how did they land so the story is not complete and I wouldn't take a half story as a reliable source.
Secondly iam not gonna debate the ability of 2 F4 to face the more manoeuvrable mig21 not gonna even talk about the amount of amunation they were carrying as back then one shout didn't equal a kill. Fuel these aircrafts took off to intercept so for obvious reasons they were not carrying extra fuel and we all know that dogfighting and manoeuvr would drain their fuel that is given that they are not just trying to shoot the egyptian in front of them but also avoid getting shot by the egyptain behind them. Doesn't seem logical does it?

On the other side the egyptains claimed that only 5 aircrafts were shoot down in the first air strike/wave (this airbase was one of many targets of the first wave of air strikes) which make sence as it was a surprise attack (like the israeli 6 days war surprise attack) what proves this more that only two aircrafts were ready to defend the airbase proving that they were taken by surprise.
Advice: do not believe everything you read specially when it does not make sence.
be advised I didn't revise what I wrote so there might be a couple of mistakes here and there

In desert warfare the numbers of tanks, soldiers and armorvehicle does not matter what really matters is airforce because if the enemy has air superiority good luck trying to move a single vehicle in the open.

It also doesn't seem logical to call Jews 'Pigs' or 'descendants from Monkeys' when all of Humanity came from Adam (PBUH). Or that Musa (PBUH) was himself a Jew, along with various other Messengers and Prophets (PBUT).

..... After the performance of the Combined, Powerful, Fearless, Courageous, Superior, ___*insert adjective*___ to push out the monstrous, cowardly Jews you can't argue with Israeli recollections.

Perhaps the MiGs carried wooden rockets? :yu:

Desert warfare requires a superior Air Force? What happened in '48? And to a certain extent '56?

I'm tired of this thread.

Sadat wanted peace and was willing to sacrifice thousands of soldiers, wars started for even less. Thankfully he got the surprise victories he needed to showcase how 'great' his military is. And in the process boosting the ego of a nation, that plenty of wars, and still struggles to create a consensus, unity, and economy.

But hey, you sure did surprise those Israelis!

The one that fled this time was the IDF...Egyptian stormed the Bar Lev Line and pushed the Israeli deep in the Sinai and stood their ground...The Algerian 8 th BB decimated Ariel Sharon tank division and score of the best trained israeli paratroopers that were with him . Just he, his driver and his coordination officer managed to escape...

I think the IDF fled across the Suez Canal and brought a lot of Armour with them.
The cowards did not want to fight the ATGs in Sinai, and instead destroyed SAMs
on the west bank. Everyone knows that SAMs vs Armour is no real fight.
Then IDF continued to flee south, and the Egyptian 3rd army disgusted with the IDF
just running in circles around them went on a hunger strike.

On the Golan front, IDF first went into a headlong retreat at a static position,
and the Syrian Army routed them by moving forward suicide tanks that exploded
within 1,000 yards of the IDF, just before the IDF could fire at them, causing great
consternation and drop of morale in the IDF, which had hoped their scheme to measure
distances to known positions on the front, would allow a lot of tank kills.
This plan thus was foiled.

The retreat on the Golan Heights took IDF back as far as Quneitra (20-30 km east of the Heights), as was claimed by the Syrian Army, but in reality IDF was even further west, when hostilities ended.

Yes, a big defeat for the IDF.

not gonna debate religious ideologis/believes as I consider it a wast of time. believe what you want to believe it's up to you Really.

Did I use any of the terms above to describe the egyptain or the israeli militaris
+there are Christians and muslim israelis using the term jews to describe israelis isn't accurate.
don't really understand the point of this.

48 read more about what happened in 48 it was a aguerrilla warfare just like what is happening now in syria.
56 they had airsuperiority

Unrelated to the topic We are debating.
but hey why not change subject as there is no answer?
Sadat wanted sinai back He tried with the Americans and israelis to make peace in exchange for sinai back ofcourse the israelis refused (massive puffer zone between mainland israel and the egyptains +the unbreakable bar laive line etc)
So the only egyptain hope was to build a capable air force russians did not agree instead wanted the russian pilots to fly them aircrafts they are gonna supply. Without airforce Sadat knew there is no hope to recapture sinai instead he used another plane with is to attack stop and negotiate . That is briefly what happened.

Sadat wanted the Israelis to back off to pre-67 borders first, and then negotiate.
That initiative failed.

Then he tried war. That failed too.

Then he tried peace negotiations, which succeeed.

sadat tried 1 thing and 1 thing only to enter war not to free sinai but to force isreal into giving sinai after taking all these losses and all what happened was planned years before the war started and it worked

If he had tried real peace negotiations first, then he might have succeeded.

Sadat sacrificed a lot of Egyptians because of internal political considerations.
He might have been wise in doing so, for if he had tried to do real peace negotiations before the war,
he might have been assassinated before an agreement was signed.

Sadat tried to start peace talks with Israel but neither Israel nor it's supporter US are ready for that as they don't have to....and every thing is ok in the region so why bother.

Only after the war, he was prepared to start negotiations without conditions.

Didn't you lose?

hahaha which lose? we kicked the Israeli as*es and destroyed their Barlef line which, according to them, was the strongest defense line in the history which needed nuclear bombs and both the American and Russian armies combined to destroy it, and guess what? we destroyed it using high power water pumps and could cross the canal :D We kicked them back from the region in Sinai that was covered by the Egyptian air defense umbrella as was planned and didn't leave even one millimeter from the conquered lands till getting the entire Sinai back .. We forced them to go and cry for mama America for help otherwise they would use nuclear weapons to save their entity and existence from the Egyptian humiliation that's why the American hurried to send them a continuous air bridge of weapons in what's called Nickel Grass Operation to save their as*es. We put the Israeli noses in dirt and the so called invicible army myth was destroyed forever. When they tried to make a TV show and propaganda with the photos they got from their American masters who used the stealth blackbird jets against Egypt and were directly involved in the war regarding the gap between the Egyptian 2nd and 3rd armies, they failed to do anything. They failed to enter Suez or Ismailia before ceasefire and Sadat was ready to destroy the tiny brigade of Sharon which even had no air support. The war forced Israel and the US to commence negotiations with Egypt to get our entire land back. Israel, which is a nation built on occupation, expansion and stealing others' lands, never gives land unless it was severely humiliated :D
