The Wrong Kind of Pakistani

It is time - the malcom x or MLK to come to the scene in Pak. there are countries where such people have not come - and the result was a disaster. pakistan is at a precipice because moderates are not takin to streets when other moderates are attacked. There is a sinister show of strength by extremists - and the moderates have allowed it. That is the beginning of downfall - the will to fight has decreased or has been affected by the moderates.

We have our MalcomX and MLKs. They are just not visible right now. Different societies evolve differently. Pakistan is a country which would have a 'slow' change in attitudes through evolution of the society. You maybe surprised to know that the maximum % of votes the right wing religious parties have been able to accumulate throughout Pakistan's history peaked at 6%. Pakistanis are generally conservative culturalist people but always vote for progressive, center left parties. It may sound like a paradox but i look at it as the flexibility of the Pakistani electorate. I am not in favour of any 'revolution' as its not suited for our nation. I want my nation to 'evolve' in its own capacity, in its own trajectory. We have always come out better of all challenges thrown at us which makes be optimistic that social evolution in Pakistan will be a positive and a pleasant one.

:P our communists were mostly sharabi kababi nationalist extremists . So No thanks we dont want russian medical degrees anymore

Ironically , the man responsible for destroying Jinnah`s Pakistan and giving us the curse of "conservatism" and "Theocracy"( i.e Islamic Republic) was a well known womanizer and he loved Alcohol himself (Sharabi ,kababi ,shababi etc.) ;) ... Yes I am talking about Khan Liaquat Ali Khan ....... Liaquat Ali tried to use "Islam" only as a weapon against nationalists and socialists of East Pakistan and we all are paying for his blunder , to this day ..... Liaquat Ali was a liberal man , In 1949, Sahibzada FaizulHassan from the Majlis-e-Ahrar declared that : All women without Purdah- especially Raana Liaqat Ali Khan (wife of Liaquat Ali) were prostitutes.........

What about "Sharabi , Kababi" Mullah Tahir Ashrafi of Pakistan Ulema Council ?? From Jinnah to Zardari , all are "sharabi" ... And you are trying to give an impression as if being "sharabi" and extremist was somehow related to "communism" in Pakistan !! .... :disagree:

But our communists were not communists in real sense rather nationalist extremists who were against USA in fight against USSR

Not true ........

there is one way out of this. In my humble opinion, the so called "liberal extremists" should simply leave. or stop propogating anything. this does not mean you have to accept any other view. Just stop being yourselves.

Then the people longing for the "real pakistan" will get to see what they asked for. This needs to happen to disillusion people from their "romance" of the "real pakistan". The Atlas holding the burden of Pakistan has to "shrug" to show who has been holding up Pakistan in tact so far.

no, there are people in Pakistan, who desire to dialogue with people who want a liberal renaissance in our country.

There is tolerance in Islam. There is no compulsion in religion. This is the central tenant of Islam.

a reaqlli great article but whats its intention ????

but after reading it i think most pakistanies have acepted such moral & intelectual corruption and above all such "ceaos & anarchy" as a part of there life and future

sad but true "what you sow is waht you shal reap"

trust me my heart bleeds for this misery of pakistani awaam ... god have mercy on pakistan

No, most Pakistanis have not accepted it, as it can be seen by meeting Pakistanis. I don't believe you really have. Pakistani Awaam have (tawakkul) faith in God. Everything happens by His Will. Thank you for your concern though, and I appreciate good sentiments from an indian.

I am not making up anything dear ...... You need to read more . And I was talking about "Political Islam" ,
About Sufism : The more genuine schools of Sufism have, no doubt, done good work in shaping and directing the evolution of religious experience in Islam; but their latter-day representatives, owing to their ignorance of the modern mind, have become absolutely incapable of receiving any fresh inspiration from modern thought and experience. [Iqbal]

plz Read my previous post again

Just picking out quotes of Iqbal, without their context, and throwing them around is futile. You think they support your stupid argument?

You don't even know about the VIRSA of Pakistan, a nation of 200 million Muslims.

No academic will ever say such stupid things.

My dear friend what you are claiming to be "out of context" is actually from the "Preface" of "The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam" by Dr. Muhammad Iqbal :
The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam :pop:

I have told you so many times to read a few things before posting stupid comments here and make yourself look like an ignorant fool every time !!

The International Journalist community has called Pakistan a very dangerous place for journalist. It is true that many with connections with the “news world” have been targeted and killed in Pakistan. Just recently, Express News offices and staff were targeted and three people were killed. Journalist Raza Rumi survived unhurt but in the same attack his personal driver was killed. Hamid Mir was critically wounded in a targeted attack on Saturday. He is recovering from his injuries. We strongly condemn these attacks and stand with the journalist community of Pakistan.

The United States state department spokesperson State Department Spokesperson, Jen Psaki, said in regards to Saturday’s attack: "The United States condemns the vicious attack on television journalist Hamid Mir in Karachi on Saturday, the latest in a series of worrisome attacks on journalists in Pakistan. Freedom of the press, including ensuring that journalists can safely carry out their vital mission, is of paramount importance to freedom of expression and to the healthy functioning of any democracy. We wish Hamid Mir a speedy recovery, and urge the government of Pakistan to bring all those responsible for these attacks on the media to justice."

Atlas Shrugged... I must get around to reading the rest of that book sometime.

I am just happy that Mr Rumi is alive and safe somewhere. I saw a few videos him debating, very softspoken, and gentle person who even if you dont agree with his view, find him very likable. You need more such people in todays world where people are quick to take extreme positions with no empathy towards others views.

can the "real version of islam" please stand up?

its is as bright as any sunny day that Pakistan proudly owned its ROLE in that STRATEGIC JIHAD OF USA against USSR.

The need of the hours is that you bharotis should stop pretending as if you dont know the role of USA and its allies in creation of mujahideen.

Period

The need for the hour is also that one should avoid butting into a one on one conversation between 2 people. :)

Dear CENTCOM spokesperson will you kindly also issue a similar Statement officially over attack on one of our other fellow journalist Abdul Ghani Kakar in Balochistan who was attacked few days before Hamid Mir.

Thanks in Advance

What are your views on Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan , Khan Abdul Wali Khan and Khan Abdul Ghani Khan ?

What are your views on Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan , Khan Abdul Wali Khan and Khan Abdul Ghani Khan ?

Wali Khan was a pragmatic politician, Ghani Khan's poet side is appreciated and admired by me. He was such a wonderful poet. (i dont want to talk about his political role because his was against Pakistan). As far as Abdul Ghafar Khan is concerned i personally believe his actions damaged Pukhtuns atleast this side of the border. While on the other side of the border, his current party is not liked.

The entire Pakistani mindset along with the priorities of the state need changing. Here is an insightful article on Fatima Jinnah arguing how badly she was treated in addition to Jinnah.. the bureaucrats & the feudals discarded Jinnah once they got Pakistan & treated him like a loose end in trying to mould Pakistan in to some kind of theocratic state,

Fatima Jinnah: A sister’s sorrow - Newspaper - DAWN.COM

Pakistan's problems do not stem from any lack of intellectual prowess or efforts by its citizens but the moulding of the national narrative & the ensuing mindset of millions that has been corrupted and perverted into a shameful outlook of religious zealotry and bigotry. Just look at the coverage of Hamid Mir's shooting regarding the ISI case as an example. He dared to criticize ISI & the 'establishment' was quick to bring out religious crazies & other pittus out on the streets in its support and wrap the entire country in posters, bilboards, pamphelets to turn public opinion against Hamid Mir and the Jang news group. Sad to see that this website was quick to jump on the Mir+Jang group bashing bandwagon. Sympathy for Hamid Mir & the dangers that our journalists face day-in and day-out was lost in this moulding of the narrative.

We, Pakistanis have an unhealthy cult like affair with our armed forces and ISI. Something that sorely needs changing. If we cannot even change this, forget about any dreams of changing any dreams the mindset that uses Islam as a smokescreen to silence any self-criticism & self-reflection.

There is still time to turn things around, but I fear, we are running out of time before catastrophic events shake the very foundations of this beautiful country & the beautiful idea of Jinnah of what he wanted it to be.
