The dysfunctional megacity: why Dhaka is bursting at the sewers

If you read the article in the link, you will see that World Bank has accepted the 7.2% GDP growth rate figure for last fiscal.
BD predicts 7.8% this fiscal and it may even touch 8%.:partay:

For over a year one thing i have seen u doing consistently on this forum is always shamelessly defending bangdeshis even if they are abusing pakistan.

Issue with some leeches we have gotten in pakistan is that even tho their elders did migrate from bango desh to pakistan but their family loyalties towards that country has stayed.

Infact the zeal with which i have always seen u defending bangladesh in wouldn't be shocked if u turn out to be an illegal bangodeshi living in karachi.
No, BD people do not usually abuse Pakistan and Pakistani except sometimes when it is necessary to defend BD itself from the continuous onslaughts by the Pakistanis themselves.

Forget about illegal Bangladeshi in Karachi. I have met a few persons who were brought up in BD, studied in Bengali, but were driven out of their chosen land, city and country. They all blame the thickheaded Pakistanis (specially the Punjabis) for the 1971 war that caused them to leave their Bangal.

. . .
It is India's misfortune that we are surrounded by countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan and not countries like Korea and Japan.

Its sad that even though so much smaller than India they are still much poor, less industrialized and almost dysfunctional.
Troll post. India is a much worse off country than Pakistan. India has about a third of the entire world's poverty, more poverty than Africa and the most poor people for a single state. With conditions like that, I guess desperation for a false portrayal of one's country is what one wishes for.

Who cares about Tier 3 and Tier 2 bla bla cities when some of your biggest states have been bundled together to be referred to as sickness (bimaru).

Appalling.

Yes you are right . Only some posh areas are better in Dhaka . But other places are bad .
Other small towns of BD are much better to live because they have much less polution than Dhaka .

Lots of peoples from small towns live in Dhaka only because of their job .
Do not say correct things in the PDF. I am surprised not to see PDF BD guys have not yet posted many hundred pictures of 5-star hotel and of other areas to prove that Dhaka is the best City in Asia. Many people are like frogs living in water wells without getting any knowledge of the world outside of BD.

Water logging is an engineering issue. It certainly has engineering solutions, although Dhaka is located in a low land. The solution may lie in the construction of a complex system as follows:
- Design and construct a drainage system with proper slopes, width and depth. There shall be one single system for one drainage zone.
- Provide many different discharge points at the rivers like Balu, Buriganga, Turag etc., and to water bodies like Hatir Jheel and Dhanmondi lake. Different discharge points also mean that the city be divided into many drainage zones depending upon their locations.
- Build pumping stations wherever the depth of a drain goes down too much.
- Build dike/levy along the river banks, so that river water does not inundate the city. Use pumps during rainy season to discharge water from the city to these rivers.
- Build pumping stations, sluice gates and locks wherever needed along the rivers.

I think, the govt should initiate a 20-year master plan to build the drainage system and build it step by step with a well coordinated planning and schedule.

Your planning is actually very realistic for sure .

I want to add something too,
I think decentralization shall play a huge role alongside those engineering plans .

Now most of jobs are only available in Dhaka .
So most of folks who don't not have govt job in various towns , go to Dhaka for job .
That increasing lots of pressure. Yes certainly some jobs are in chittagong too , maybe increasing this opportunity , yet ctg is at a corner and peoples from North Bengal , khulna division , and perhaps from sylhet too don't want to move to ctg simply because it's too far from home town .

So if those folks can have jobs near their area , they will take those jobs and population pressure on dhaka will be decreased. What is your opinion about it ?

There r almost 3000 garments factories in Dhaka city where almost 1 million people r employed. These factories need to be relocated.

And also private companies, multi National companies should make branches in various cities.
In short many other development ,but govt has to be sincere .
One example , most of peoples come to Dhaka for better treatment .
Few goes to rajshahi but only regional folks .
Most of private Universities are in Dhaka .
Every thing should have their branches of other cities ,and all should be equal .
And many more you guess what I want to say .
I believe this is a great way to decrease overload on dhaka .
So all kinds of jobs and facilities should be abailavai in other areas , if not like Dhaka , still atleast in in a minimal standard in other areas .

The thread is all about the gutter cleaning of Dhaka city, the Capital of Shonar Bangla. Instead of concentrating on this, you are talking about something different not within the scope of this discussion. Please understand that in some other threads also you tend to change the subject without any aim. Please open threads related to to your own personal thinking.

Lol man you are becoming extremely sensitive. Can you show me a single thread that isn't derailed with complete off topic discussion? Anyway my aim was not to change the topic but slightly different .Anyway leave it

So, you are stopping people from coming to Dhaka and some guys here are applauding it. Not bad. But, do it, because your formula will certainly stop the water logging in Dhaka without a doubt. I wonder, with thinking like this why the city is full of dusts, debris, muds, drains with overflowing water, sound pollution and all other things that cannot be seen in a civilized world? Why the govt still not asking people to refrain from going to Dhaka? This is certainly the best solution to stop the flood during monsoon.
