The dysfunctional megacity: why Dhaka is bursting at the sewers

Sometimes i feel Indian or Pakistani politicians would've done better job with this city. Dhaka is definitely not a attractive city to live in.

This is true. All south Asian cities seem to have problems, but Dhaka has all those problems in a much much bigger scale.

PS: Why did the Bengladeshi government never thought of building a planned city nearby to decongest Dhaka ? Lack of funds ? Not interested ?

.
It is India's misfortune that we are surrounded by countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan and not countries like Korea and Japan.

Its sad that even though so much smaller than India they are still much poor, less industrialized and almost dysfunctional.
Yeah you better drag your country into Indian ocean since no one likes you anyway..

BD only started it's development in 1971 after a devastating 9 month civil war with zero foreign reserves and no export industry of any kind. How did you expect the new country to start the development of the country in this condition?

Dhaka 2016-2035 Master Plan will pour 40 billion US dollars upgrading the infrastructure in and around Dhaka to world class standards.

BD is the fastest growing 100 million+ population economy in the world. We just need a little patience.

Not according to the world bank...

https://bdnews24.com/economy/2018/0...bangladesh-economy-will-grow-over-7-in-fy2018

http://www.dhakatribune.com/business/economy/2017/10/12/imf-projects-7-1-gdp-growth-bangladesh/

https://bdnews24.com/economy/2018/0...bangladesh-economy-may-grow-6.4-in-fy-2017-18

"Earlier, the bank predicted a 6 percent GDP growth in the 2016-17 fiscal which has now been revised at 7.2 percent."

So the world bank predicted 6% for growth in last fiscal and the agreed with BD that it was 7.2%!

BD is the fastest growing 100 million+ population economy in the world.:partay:

Stop talking tgrouth ur backside and thank hasina for helping India to keep the eastern side of India free from terrorists.

Many ppl in Bangladesh already hates u. So don't give them reasons to despise u even more. A friendly and prosperous Bangladesh will only help india to achieve their goal of becoming a global superpower.

Don't do stupid things. It may convert ur friends into ur enemies .
Come out of sewer... guttertune.

BD and PK has sewers, your people have nothing and left with the choice of defeating out in the open.

Let’s just admit Dhaka is a lost cause, years of imperialism and poverty afterwards have left it beyond salvageable.
Move the capital to a newly built city and then work on Dhaka else you’ll be throwing money in the sewers but it will keep overflowing.

It is a problem with massively growing city, instead of expanding basic infrastructure city officials blindly give permits to new apartment rises.

roads, sewers, electricity poles, water pipes..etc would have been designed for a smaller residences with lesser capacity. The very same places would now have apartment complexes which will obviously end up overwhelming the existing infrastructure.

The city has to grow horizontally and expand outside the city instead of allowing more apartment rises.

True. Day by day Dhaka city is becoming almost unlivable. Even for an outsider it won't take more than couple of hours to realise how pathetic this city really is, all thx to Dhaka city's infamous traffic jam.

To be completely honest, our government has been pouring millions of dollars in different projects and building infrastructures to improve the living conditions in Dhaka city. Sadly these projects have a very slim chance of improving the condition of Dhaka city because the damage has been already done and the only solution is to build this city from scratch which requires a more radical approach.

Current BAL government, like its predecessor is more interested in doing things what r feasible rather than what r desirable. They r more interested in showing the public that they are doing something, rather than solving the problems in a meaningful sense.

If u really waana insult me or rile me up, u need to be more creative than that buddy.

U r an interesting creature. Instead of getting mad at u, i'm finding ur childish behaviour rather amusing. Do u always judge people like this or I'm the exception here? If I'm not wrong, this is the first time we r talking with each other, right?

Have you considered whether Japanese or Koreans would want to be beside you? Lol. They don't even like Indian neighbours in their own countries, for being an unhygienic race.
