What's new

Talks on with US for EDA including M109 self propelled guns.

you are Devil .. and your Pakistan too ..
i too did not expect to see that comming. irfy has his troll on.
@Rafi any specifics to what they will/may be getting. you mentioned missiles will they be aim120d's or 120c7's

as our counter terrorism expert [irfy] said for the "war on terror"

Amen brother. Excalibur will be icing .. but at least MRSI capable guns.. multiple round simultaneous impact. enemy big or small, conventional or unconventional doesn't get the chance to escape or guess the incoming round impact patten since they all impact simultaneously

oh yea for WOT purposes only.. to be used safely hundreds of miles away from our overtly concerned Eastern neighbour
;)

well if you want MRSI then it would have to be the Panzer 2000 or K9 Thunder.

neither of those are cheap though

but later the A5's can be upgraded to A7 standard right?

i dont buy it unless i see a source.

but it does make sense though to give the pakistanis a lollipop so that they listen.
remember nothing comes for free pakistanis should know that better than anyone else.
It's possibly (as in if the reports are correct) part of the US 'confidence/trust building' process with respect to engagement with Pakistan - the US has EDA stocks, Pakistan has a requirement for this equipment and requested some of it, so what does the US gain from denying said request?

US assistance for Pakistan in maintaining some level of conventional balance (a balance in relative, not absolute, terms) with India also directly assists US goals of continued and/or increased intensity of COIN operations in FATA and Balochistan, and quite frankly it keeps the India-Pakistan dynamic stable because the cost of conventional war for both sides remains prohibitive with no guarantee of a favorable outcome for either side.

Instead of getting M 109 we buy M 777 in lesser number is better option
"Instead" is the wrong word, ever heard the term "bhagtay bhoot ki langooti"? Grab what you can, it's free (relatively speaking)

As to the M777, twist their arm for a heavy discount, you'll get it.

Honestly speaking, I feel The future of arty lies in MLRS. It's shoot & scoot capabilities are unparalleled.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but MLRS, and to a great extent SP arty, are taking over the role of "traditional" howitzers, but don't let that stop India from buying 500 or 5,000

To an extent but this M777 purchase is for a very specifc purchase- the Indian Army's Mountain Strike Corp (MSC) being raised to fight in India's North and North East. The idea of the M777 is to be air-mobile with the IAF's CH-47Fs:

This is so the IA can have 155 calibre arty in the mountains where heavy, truck mounted, MGS or MLRS cannot access.

The IA is also procuring 5-6,000 arty guns (of different kinds) over the next 3 years:

SPG- L&T-Samsung consortium making the K9 in Pune:

Dhanush- being made by OFB:

All "tube" arty is seperate to the Indian Army's MBRL Pinaka (next generation version with greater range being developed) and Smerch being inducted continuously:

You would think both countries having nuclear weapons would make any conventional war prohibitive. If US wants conventional balance, it would be giving Pakistan more weapons and India less. Of course, this depends on how big this EDA package is.

M777 is still nowhere ...
36 Rafael deal and truck mounted arty gun deals are dead !

@Super Falcon M777 can't replace a SPG! One is a towed gun ., the other an SPG!!

We produce Panter 155mm (which also has SP capability-to an extent) no need for another towed gun.. Better get more SH-1s and M109A series..
