What's new

Tajdar-e-Haram

Well in gtech, I was a graduate student so I was living in the grads hostel with kitchen so not much problems from the administration. Mine pasta used to be the blandest of all, boiled spaghetti and then added little bit of olive oil, tomato sauce with a pinch of salt and black pepper and a little bit of pesto :) But on weekends we used to BBQ or dine out with friends and that still continues though much less frequently. Thanks for your offer but you can share the recipe. Btw in which state you are?

Sounds good, except that tomato sauce + pesto seems a little adventurous. I like to make my sauce a little more piquant than I eat myself, because the kids seemed to like it.

I live in Hyderabad, a city in Telangana, and was blissfully happy before rushing to Bengaluru on Monday evening to help out in a medical emergency. Now I've been thinking a lot, looking around the obvious signs of wealth and prosperity, and the quietly understated comfort of high-income areas, and - what the heck! - wondering about living here again, like I used to ten years ago.

It's the weather, to a large extent.

I heard that Hyderabadi biryani or pulao is very popular.. so pasta will be occasional dish in your area because in South India and Pakistan people like spicy food... Okay wish you best of luck with your next move...I have to move back to my home after the renovation after Eid. Though I started to like this apartment too due to the ariel view of city which I can't get from my only three story home (one basement).

As and when you come to Hyderabad, don't forget the other specialities, don't stick to biryani alone. We export several plane-loads of haleem during the Holy Month. Paya and Neharis (Niharis?) are other specialities. Finally, if you have the courage and the sporting spirit, eat our Andhra, Telengana and Rayalaseema cuisine. An English person had a hearty dinner, and was found pale and wan the next morning. He told his worried hosts,"Now I know why you Indians use water. Paper catches fire."

Thanks for the good wishes.

Thank you...one day I hope to visit though no plans yet...I would like to visit Samana Patiyala from where my grand parents lived and migrated to Pakistan. I heard a lot of great stories from my dado (grand mother) about her childhood and the faseel (wall) surrounding their homes and palkis (some sort of transportation for women) ...seemed like they had a privillaged life which they had to forgo at the time of migration...

Wow haleem (daleem), paya nihari are pretty much popular in Pakistani community :). If you visit Atlanta, you can let me know.

My daughter just left Emory, so there's nothing taking me there, although I've always wanted to visit. Ah well, in the future, some day, insh'Allah.

We export tonnes of these; foreigners (Kannadigas) love it -
