On the one hand Taiwan has transferred technology and capital to the mainland, but they have cooperated way too much diplomatically and military with the West. And while I don't have much faith in democratic governments, they do have the most experience governing at the moment.

Let me telling you the truth, many Taiwanese fishermen actually prefer PRC over ROC. Since PRC's maritime surveillance ships always escorted and protected them from the foreign coast guards, while the ROC CGA is unable to protect them. KMT's vision about the unification = One China under ROC

But this is impossible, since they are losers, while the modern China was built up by PRC. And ROC has none of the credits, while they are still helping the US to contain against the Rise of China.

Both Taiwan and Crimea have the separatist element, but the one from Taiwan is even stronger.

While the pro-unification element in Taiwan and Crimea is also quite different.

The one from Crimea wants to become part of the Russian Federation.

While the one from Taiwan always dreams to overthrow PRC.

Since the situation is different, thus we cannot generalize it.
