You dont have to forget if we dont sell china anything they start producing their own stuff and in the end the same result could happen anyways. China is now even developing their own civilian planes and is the largest civilian ship builder, they could easily engineer their weapons even without any help from russia after some time.

Its better to upkeep with their development and sell and license our products so their products they make are dependent on our manufacturing and design. German cars are manufactured every in the world but engines and parts have still to be imported from Germany.

Well, we did copy some Russian weapons because we were backward compared the Soviet technology in the 1990s.

We did have feud with USSR during the Cold War, but later Russia sold us weapons and Putin is now willing to further enhance the cooperation with us. So we are even now, most of us see Russia as a good partner rather than an enemy.

China now has a lot of money and as well as its own technology.

We could make the joint development with Russia about the space program/stealth bomber/aircraft carrier/destroyer/etc.
