HÜRKUŞ

New Generation Basic Trainer (HÜRKUŞ) Development Program contract was signed between the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries and TAI in March 2006. HÜRKUŞ with day and night mission capability; instrument flight, navigation and formation training phases will be realized.

Within the framework of the program; two aircraft configurations are being developed.
  • HÜRKUŞ-A: Basic version which is to be certified with EASA according to CS-23 requirements.
  • HÜRKUŞ-B: Advanced version with integrated avionics (including HUD, MFDs, and Mission Computer).
Following the completion of taxi tests, the first aircraft of HÜRKUŞ-A Configuration successfully performed its first flight on August 29, 2013 at TAI's facilities. Consequent to the flight permission of SHGM (Turkish Civil Aviation General Directorate) and EASA (European Civil Aviation Authority), the first flight, which lasted 33 minutes, was performed with open landing gear position at a height of 9500 ft. During the flight, the first checks were performed on control surfaces and a successful landing was realized.

Stability and control checks in different flight configurations have been conducted in the following flight tests. Landing gear up-down tests, cockpit pressurized tests and system functions pre-checks have been performed. The aircraft has reached 12.500 ft height and 158 knots speed currently. The flight tests are still ongoing.

The first prototype has performed 106 flight-hours in 98 sorties. During these flights;15.000 ft altitude, 295 knot speed and 4.4g values have been tested.

The second prototype with TC-VCI tail number has performed it's first flight on 10 September 2014. During the tests performed so far; 25.000 ft altitude and 234 knot speed values have been tested.

As a resolution of SSIK's meeting, held on Sept. 26, 2013, in order to meet the 15 new-generation trainer aircraft requirement of TurAF, contract negotiations regarding the serial production of HÜRKUŞ was started with TAI. The negotiations regarding HÜRKUŞ-B contract is on the signing stage currently.

After Anka MALE UAV, MSB Vecdi Gonul announced that TAI has almost finished the Production/Assembly of Hurkus Basic trainers and Roll-out would be performed in a short time...

According to TAI officials, Hurkus will be produced in two different category.

Hurkus A-Acbobatic turpoprop
Hurkus B-Military trainer/ COIN missions

Cabatli what happened to the ANKA flight ? Has it been delayed ?
 
Cabatlı, Why did TAI had this much diffuculity on a tranier plane that doesn't need much know how and tech? I know it is our first plane but why after 5 years TAI still couldn't start this planes prductions?

I would be very happy if you explain these to me. Thanks for sharing!
 
COIN variant of Hurkus is secondary target of TAI and It will be called B version. The fuselage seen on images are A basic version...
Hurkus-B will be same with A variant in terms of fuselage but avionics will be different. Contrary to A, B variant will have a mission comuter.

Whether it may look like (Outer design) one, I don't think that Hurkus plane is such a simple basic platform. It will be equipped for day and night flying (instrument flying), it will have cabin pressurization, ejection seats and an on-board oxygen generation system. I think Hurkus is just one step behind a jet plane.

Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii (TAI) tarafından geliştirilen başlangıç ve temel eğitim uçağı Hürkuş, Haziran ayında fabrikadan çıkarak törenle çalıştırılacak.

Yapılacak testlerden sonra uçuşa başlayacak Hürkuş, 1.600 beygirlik motoruyla dünyanın en güçlü eğitim uçağı olacak. ‘Eğitim uçaklarının Ferrarisi’ olarak anılacak Hürkuş, Savunma Sanayii Müsteşarlığı’nın (SSM) onayının ardından Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri’nde kullanılabilecek.

TAI’nin Uçaklardan Sorumlu Genel Müdür Yardımcısı Özcan Ertem, üretim bittikten sonra 1-1.5 yıl uçuş ve dayanıklılık testi yapılacağını söyledi. Montajı biten ve çalıştırılmaya hazır olan Hürkuş’un uluslararası testleri de geçtikten sonra gökyüzüne merhaba diyeceğini anlatan Ertem, “SSM 2 uçak geliştirmemizi istedi ancak biz 4 gövde yaptık. 2 uçağı da yerde sağlamlık testi için eğip bükeceğiz” dedi. Türkiye’de ordu halen Kore’nin geliştirdiği 950 beygirlik KT-1T isimli eğitim uçağını kullanıyor. Ertem’in verdiği bilgiye göre Hürkuş 1.600 beygirlik motoruyla Brezilyalı Tucano ile aynı ligde olacak. Kanadalı Pratt&Whitney’in motorunu kullanacak Hürkuş, Tucano’ya kanat teknolojisiyle fark atacak. TSK’nın onayının ardından Hürkuş yurtdışına da ihraç edilebilecek. Hürkuş, altına mühimmat eklenebilen versiyonuyla da ilk yakın destek Türk savaş uçağı olarak teröre karşı savaşacak. Hürkuş fırlatma koltuğu kullanılan ilk yerli uçak unvanının sahibi olacak.

Adı Vecihi Hürkuş’tan

Hürkuş, adını Türkiye’nin ilk hava zaferini kazanan, ilk havacılık okulunu açan ve ilk Türk sivil havayolu şirketini kuran Vecihi Hürkuş’tan aldı. 1896’da doğan Hürkuş, uçak makinisti olduktan sonra tayyareciliğe meraklanıp pilot olmuştu. Kurtuluş Savaşı’na katılan Hürkuş, 1925’te kendisinin geliştirdiği Vecihi K-IV isimli uçağıyla ilk uçuşunu yaptı. Türk havacılık tarihinin en önemli isimlerinden Vecihi Hürkuş, 1969’da hayatını kaybetti.

Tests will take 1-1.5 year. Hurkus will use 1600hp P&W made engine and will be same class with Embraer's Tucano. It's wing technology better than Tucano and it's armed version will use on close support missions against terrorism.

This also mean cheaper Flight Hour than F-16 by attacks on PKK Camps, Armed Anka, T-129 and armed Hurkus will make the Fight against PKK more cost effective ! I read in WAFF that armed Hurkus will be also used to Hunt small Ships in the Aegean with improved UMTAS Misssiles.

Personally, I don't think design of Hurkus is Turkish. Just look to pictures of Hurkus and KT-1. They are all same. There must be so much "impression" from KT-1.
