T-129 Atak & Turkish Attack Helicopter Programs

I think the 16 ATGM thing is an outdated cold war concept. If it carried a single Çakır missile it would be much more helpful.

And maybe a couple of Kuzgun-KY missiles for closer engagements.

a big no no, an attack helicopter firing cruise missiles would not be practical

a attack helicopter main job is to provide close air support with accurate firepower to land forces

a cruise missile is a deep strike weapon to knock out critical infrastructure like warships out at sea and command control bunkers

for that we have fast fighter jets, a attack helicopter would suffer and very quickly you would be left with no helicopter and no cruise missile

The role of the cruise missile is evolving, as well as the definition of a "cruise missile", if by cruise missile you mean a SOM or a Tomahawk, yeah that might be overkill and there would be weight and size issues carrying it on the underbelly of a helicopter and might be better off on a different platform like a fighter jet.

BUT, if you mean something like the recent KEMANKES "mini" cruise missile that Bayraktar recently introduced, its a very different proposition(from what I read it weighs about as much as a MAM-L and looks about the same size).

Attack Helicopters already fire guided munitions at a distance like the Hellfire missile, and have fired "unusual" munitions like Air to Air stingers, I don't think its out of the question to fire KEMANKES or the Lockheed LOCAAS type munitions.

There are unique advantages to Helicopter operations, you can completely hug the ground and get close to targets without being detected on radars, and if you get close enough and then launch a mini cruise missile from somewhat standoff range, it has a great deal of potential to get through air defenses undetected.

Its basically like firing a loitering UTMAS or Hellfire missile, it could certainly have potential.

Ukraine has carried out operations deep inside Russia for example with helicopter and largely undetected b/c of the utilization of ground effects on radar.

The author Tom Newdick is a very nice guy and a long-time good friend of mine who edited all my books ... his latest work he's currently preparing may be interesting to some of you :azn: and Cem Dogut is anyway famous to most.

nonsense.

Just like how Seahawks carried Penguin missiles, they will carry Çakır now so will any other naval helicopter strong enough to carry them.

It's not an evolution, we carried Penguin AShMs on Seahawks since forever ago.

We're just getting more modern versions of the same concept.

Rest is @aziqbal's ignorance.

Question, why this helicopter doesn't look same like this is that's a different helicopter...
What's currently being tested is just a prototype, It will regain its original appearance until it enters mass production.

Because making it ugly as sin scares the enemy

What's currently being tested is just a prototype, It will regain its original appearance until it enters mass production.
I don't think it will go back to looking like the mock-up, it will keep evolving and the final product won't look like anything we've seen before.

The PAA can now fly ATAK-2 home, zero mileage!

There are 3 ways of accomplishing a stuff: the right way, the wrong way, and the Turkic way....

Cry Hindutva cry.....

ATAK-2 has met the sky for the first time:
The ATAK-II is not only an Itar-free platform, but also a helicopter that is roughly twice the size of the T-129. In fact, with its 11.5 tonnes MTOW, it looks like it will have an even larger silhouette than the AH-64E/F. It will be a chopper in the same class as the MI-28E. While the T-129 is more of an attack platform specialised for reconnaissance attack missions, the T-929 directly targets high firepower and related capabilities, like BLOS abilities. If the Pakistan Armed Forces' preference for the T-129 is focused on reconnaissance roles, the T-929 may not be the exact equivalent of this role, but it is obvious that it will add strength to its power as a platform on which the Pakistani army can make the modifications it wants much more easily and quickly, without any logistical issues. As I have already mentioned before, while there are already more than 70 up-to-date attack helicopters in different forces, I think that one of the reasons why the T-929 is progressing at such an extraordinary speed is related to Pakistan's need for armoured helicopters.
