Turkey said on Monday that Syrian forces had fired at a second Turkish plane which was searching for an F-4 reconnaissance jet shot down by Syria last week, but the second plane was not brought down.

Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told a news conference that Turkey would protect itself, within the framework of international law, against what it called Syria's "hostile action" of downing its warplane last week.

He said at the end of a seven-hour cabinet meeting on the incident that Syria's downing of the reconnaissance jet would "not go unpunished".

Syrian security forces fired on a Turkish-flagged search and rescue plane which rushed into Syrian airspace to locate the downed Turkish F4 jet and its two missing pilots June 22, the Hürriyet Daily News has learned from Western diplomatic sources.

“[In addition to] what we have seen in the media, we have been informed that Syrian forces opened fire on another Turkish plane [which had come to the region] as part of the search and rescue operation,” sources told the Daily News on the condition of anonymity.

So we should not send search and rescue planes ?

^

No you should , but take permission first !

Syria isn't some banana republic to be intruded at will ... What is so hard to understand about that ? :azn:

Riddle me this anyone , the F-4 was shot in International Waters according to Turkish Govt ... But yet the wreckage is being found inside Syrian airspace ... How come ? :azn:

What permission when the conditions laid by Syrian government is not acceptable by Turkey. They have asked to retain the wreckage of the plane and interrogation of pilots (if found).

Ever heard of leaving no man behind ?

Turkey won't leave their pilots at the same time can't accept Syria's demands. That's why these rescue mission, no matter how provocative they may sound.

first u ppl violate others air space by sending recon missions and then when they shoot u u cry foul??waht ru doing in syrian air space BTW?? No u cant send rescue planes in others air space without their permission and certainly when u ppl are hostile to them.Go through diplomatic channels and beg for mercy then i guess asad might spare those missing pilots..

Plane shot down 1 km out of Syrian airspace , its crashed 1 km in , 1 km is just few seconds you know...

O shut up , airspace violations always happens , that plane violated their airspace for shortly and left , it was left the Syrian airspace 11 minutes ago when its shot down.

Asad should stop massacring his people & Iranian mullahs must stop supporting them.

Totally Irrelevant ... We have seen the angelic deeds in Bahrain ! Astonishing , nobody gave a damn **** since Manama is a US ally , whilst Syria siding with Russia !

Do not get me started on the Arab's past actions ! ... Nobody's a saint ...

You violate the airspace , despite the hostilities your F-4 fly that close to the border with a provocative path ! Why do you ask for leniency then ? Any answer ?

What is 1km in International waters ? :azn: ... How fast does these things go ?

Really ? Is it a norm in your country ?

The wreckage in Syrian airspace is telling a different story totally contrary to what Ankara is hell bent on proving ...
