I had hoped the pilots would have ejected and found their way to a nearby settlement.

It seems that they initiate ejection very close to ground but as per black box record they didn't initiate ejection at all and in that case their bodies should be near the wreckage, further they found open parachutes near the wreckage all this suggest that pilots try to eject near the ground.

One kept hoping against hope that these young men would have survived though after 36 hours the chances all but faded.
