Lots of good suggestions. We need to keep in mind that the mods are already overburdened and we can't expect them to police everything all the time.
From the above list of suggestions, here's one compromise:
- Post-registration waiting period before posting is allowed: this will cut down on spammers and suicide trolls.
- Threads started by non-senior members go into a waiting pool where they must be approved by mods first.
I don't believe in age limits or otherwise restricting people to join or post. As others have said, borderline trolling is subjective anyway and it adds a little spice to an otherwise dull discussion about military hardware. As long as it stays playful and doesn't get into abusive language or ganging up.
Finally, it requiers a little self-policing on our part to ignore trolls and off-topic posts. (I know we have all been guilty of these offenses ourselves.)
