Another misconception..Majority of Muslims are Moorish(Originally from North Africa and Arabia) But there is a considerable population of Muslims speaking Tamil as their mother tongue in the Eastern province originally from Andra(Corromandel coast),TN and Kerala who came much later during the Dutch period..Most Mulims are tri lingual anyway..One of the main reasons they dominate the state and service intelligence units

Also there are large communities of Malay Muslims(from Malaya and Java) and North Indian/Pak Bohra, Memon and Shias

They constitute to about 10% +/- ..Of the population of SL of 20 million..So about 2 million give or take..Not sure if the Malays are included in that percentage
