How it works is if someone spreads a rumour then the one about whom the rumour is about, comes out refutes..I haven't seen any denial from the lankans..like how the malaysians immediately denied the news about jf17.

Shortly after Sharif’s visit, Sri Lanka’s minister of defense, Karunasena Hettiarachchi, denied that the JF-17 was even discussed. “The matter did not even come up for discussion during the talks [with the Pakistani government],” he said, according to The Colombo Gazette. He added that “if there arises a requirement for Sri Lanka to procure aircraft of this nature, in keeping with the policy of the Government of Sri Lanka to maintain transparency, expressions of interest will be called for, from all concerned.”

Which means this is an open tender for bidding and JF17, LCA, Grippen etc everyone is free to compete..the Lankas will not go pick and buy a fighter like super market shopping...'

However, mere days after the deal was reported, sources claimed that the deal had been cancelled. The reason for the cancellation of the deal is revealing of current diplomatic dynamics in South Asia. According to TheIndian Express, the Sri Lankan government, led by President Maithripala Sirisena, canceled its plans to purchase the JF-17s after a “diplomatic missive” from New Delhi suggesting that Colombo should refrain from adding these aircraft to its fleet.

The report adds that New Delhi included a negative technical assessment of the JF-17 and “pointed out that [Sri Lanka's] defense requirements did not need fighters.” According to the report, the Indian government delivered a “non-paper”–described as a “white sheet of paper without a letterhead of signature”–to the Sri Lankan government weeks ahead of Sharif’s planned visit.

And then there is the typical Indian cheapness and interference...LCA is being hailed as the holy grail of fighters when its exports and spare parts cannot even be guranteed by Indians because forigen engine and avionics will needs its own permission to sell..LCA has a good potential to become another JAS Griffen fiasco..a very good demonstrator...very little export potential...India is the cry baby of Asia!.

It doesn’t appear that India is planning on offering Sri Lanka a substitute for the JF-17. New Delhi’s suggestion that Sri Lanka does not require multi-role fighters for its defense needs suggests that it does not plan to do so in the future. (The closest Indian analog, in terms of cost-per-unit, is the HAL Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, but its feature-set is very different from what the JF-17 offers.)

There goes indian wet dream down the drain with some drain opener for a good added measure.

Not many in India take LCA seriously compared to how jf17 is revered in pakistan because..

1. It's not a mature platform yet.

2. It's just a point defense jet.

3. We know Indian defense industry is far more capable than coming out with am LCA.

4. It took way too long..and everybody's lost interest.

Frankly, I would view LCA export sales (if it happens) as a coup of sorts and credit it to India's marketing and it's muscle power...and, frankly no one's losing much sleep over it.

But indians come over trolling on PDF for it..day and night....
So far LCA is just a demonstrator and that too not a fully functional one..to compare it with a inducted and operational jet is a folly..

As for the comparisons..its a valid argument..and worth comparing about, both jets are of the same class...though I would prefer if LCA gets compared to Grippen rather than jf17.

Why is it that such a mighty and vast force is so petrified at the mere mention of Pakistan selling a supposedly 2nd rate, 3rd generation fighter jet according to Indian media ??...lol

Let us do our job of marketing a chinese product in peace after all what can a meagre country like Pakistan do to harm anyone ??

God knows why the whole of the indian media's rear on fire at the slightest mention of this news..hahaha

Largest shortfall in aircraft as compared to whom?..IAF is still the 4th largest airforce in the world. IN will soon have a bigger airforce than most countries.

Shortfall here is gauged by optimum operational requirement.

This sort of news only being spread by Indians on twitter and youtube and their trademark toilet media!

What i fail to understand is : Why is the mightest airforce in the world albeit the Indian Airforce and government so petrified at the mere mention of Pakistan selling a third rate, 2nd generation fighter jet ??

Also why was it such a contention that the Indian government had to issue a diplomatic warning ??

All this for a country like Pakistan which the Indians can tank role and carpet-bomb anytime ??

You don't follow Indian media then..A news here or there doesn't mean "the whole of Indian media" - there are probably 5000 newspapers and 300 news channels..and a picked up news piece sees mention in some of them, doesn't mean they are on fire or are petrified..its just a news bit.

As for why..India gives huge aid to Sri Lanka regularly and probably doesn't fancy a chinese/ pakistani jet flying in its backyard or gaining momentum in its neighbors air force.

Pakistan offering it to anyone else for example Nigeria or Venezuela doesn't find mention.

JF-17 was jointly designed ground up for PAF requirement in mind, not PLAAF, nor any other third party.

you got it all backward.

And yet Pakistanis were boasting like anything on this forum about how Sri Lanka will purchase the "Pakistani" JF-17, and how this shows how super-duper it is. When that bubble burst, suddenly it became an aircraft suited only for Pakistan and not for any 3rd party.

As for "jointly designed" - I'm sure that Pakistanis will believe this. It reached Pakistan after all tests and validations were performed in Chengdu.
