West was interested to get only two people out of India during Emergency. That demonstrates their importance to the West.

The Masters of Disguise During Emergency
AVIRAL VIRKUPDATED: 25.06.15

In the run up to the 22-month long period of Emergency, Indira Gandhi fought an organised political opposition, a call to mutiny, drought, a global oil crisis and a near stagnant economy and relentless strikes.

Indira Gandhi ruled with an iron will. There was no room for detractors.

JP, Morarji, Advani, Vajpayee and Asoka Mehta were the poster boys of the resistance – therefore, fastidiously thrown in jail for their activities. But the resistance didn’t rest solely on their esteemed shoulders. There were others who operated underground, feeding the heroic images of the headliners.

To avoid arrest, they sometimes had to don a disguise. Perhaps the most famous among them was our very own Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

[img class="img-h" src="https://images.assettype.com/thequi...882/MODI.png?q=35&auto=format,compress&w=1200" alt="(Photo Courtesy: http://www.narendramodi.in)
Yes, this bearded, turbaned, Rayban-wearing, theatre-loving Gujarati was all of 25 when “Indira became India and India became Indira”. Young Modi was in charge of co-ordinating all the underground activities of the RSS in Gujarat. This covert turbanator would don a variety of disguises as he ferried forbidden literature to Delhi, met other Jan Sangh leaders in jail and escorted senior leaders like George Fernandes to safehouses.

Indira Gandhi called him a “Santa Claus with unrealistic ideas”. Quick on the heels of an arrest warrant with his name on it, Subramanian Swamy, disguised as a Sikh, escaped to Chennai, then Sri Lanka – and finally to the United States where he became a spokesperson for the Jan Sangh.

The maverick mathematician came back to India only when he stood the chance of losing his Parliament seat. He slipped into Parliament – but remain quiet he did not. While the Speaker was reading out the Obituaries, Swamy famously said

I have a point of order. There is no obituary reference for democracy. It has also died.
– Subramanian Swamy

Technically, he should’ve been arrested on the spot. But everybody was too stunned to react. He exited the Parliament as deftly as he’d arrived. He drove a distance, changed into a kurta and wore a kada to resemble a “Youth Congress thug”. He then fled to Nepal, subsequently to Bangkok and finally to America to do what he does best – haunt the Congress High Command.

George Fernandes was 45 years old when Emergency was declared. The trade union leader who was responsible for the famous 1974 Railway strike discovered his skills as a master of disguise in the 22 month-long period of Emergency. He was constantly on the move, rarely stopping at one place for more than a few days.

In Gopalpur, Odisha, he wore a lungi to resemble a fisherman. Later, he grew his hair and beard long and passed off convincingly as a Sikh. Alternatively, he would wear a saffron kurta and a lungi and manage to escape notice as he moved around the country as a sadhu.

Nanaji Deshmukh was a close associate of Jayaprakash Narayan and a founding member of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh. He played a key role in raising funds for the anti-Emergency resistance.

At one of the processions, lathicharged by the police, Nanaji Deshmukh is believed to have thrown himself on JP to protect him from the blows. Nanaji Deshmukh would change his spectacles and hairstyle, and ditch the kurta for a suit to look more like a businessman.

Nanaji did not fight any election but remained engaged in social activities till he passed away in 2010 at the age of 94.

How Subramanian Swamy Stood Up To The Might Of Indira Gandhi

Shaurya Visen

This is about a man, who left Indira Gandhi red-faced after she imposed the Emergency—Subramanian Swamy.

He is now hailed as “the hero of Emergency” because he was successful in staying out of jail, and able to dodge the police many times, at a time when thousands of people were arrested.

Long before the imposition of the Emergency, Swamy, living abroad, was contemplating his return to India teach, but Jayapakash Narayan’s visit to Harvard made Swamy determined to return. So, he started working with “JP” on a movement. But Swamy was quick to realise the futility of people’s movement unless JP enters politics. When he suggested it, JP not only rebuffed the idea but also asked Swamy to leave the movement. He called Swamy an Americanized Indian . In three to four years, when his movement didn’t bear result, he realised his fault. He brought Swamy back and apologised to him. In the meantime, Swamy also became very close to Nanaji Deshmukh of the RSS, and Morarji Desai, both of whom were arrested during the Emergency. In fact, Morarji Desai remained in jail for the complete period of Emergency—21 months.

A few hours before Emergency was declared, Swamy got a phone call from an SHO at five o’clock in the morning. The SHO ambiguously told Swamy that if he was at home, he (the SHO) would come to see him, and if he was not at home, he would be comfortable on a future date. Swamy understood it to be a hint. So, he packed up his clothes and went to his friend’s house. Police came to detain Swamy under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA), but to no avail. Then Swamy camouflaged as Nanaji’s for quite some time. Of course, he had changed his appearance. Nanaji soon got arrested, and then he was taken care of by RSS people. It was during this time that Swamy realized the real strength of RSS. In fact, Indira Gandhi once said the sole reason she was defeated in 1977 was because of the RSS. During Emergency, RSS was operating from underground. They use to manage Swamy’s travels, his hideouts, and even communication with his wife.

Now, JP sent a message for Swamy telling him that he should be abroad, where his real power lay. So he went to the UK, and the US and got the attention of international media on what was happening in India. But he was disappointed there. People there considered all ‘developing countries’ as dictatorships, so they had no problem adding India to that list. It was then that Swamy thought of an idea, complex to execute, but if done, it would have far-reaching effort. It did actually!

Swamy took a plane to India, and in those days there were no direct flights. He took the ticket for Bangkok, so that his name wouldn’t appaer on the immigration list of the authorities. When he landed in India, it was three o’clock in the morning. There was no police. Only one constable. He looked at Swamy, who in turn, showed his Rajya Sabha pass, and the constable saluted him . Swamy straight away went to a hotel and informed his wife about his future plan in a way that would mislead anyone listening in. He dressed up as a Sardarji and went to his own house. He choose a time of ten o’clock in the morning. He then got in disguised as an electrician. There was change of police at 10:30 AM, and the previous police personnel forgot to tell the next shift that an electrician had gone inside a house. They were bored, and were playing cards. Why would they care for electrician? They are here to catch Swamy, who is abroad, and he is working day and night to expose and shame Indira Gandhi on a world platform. As a result of lax police, Swamy stayed in his own house for five whole days!

Then, he decided to go personally see Indira Gandhi and her ministers. He dressed up in a kurta, took his wife along with him, and drove down to parliament. This time the police saw him, but they were playing cards religiously. Swamy entered Parliament just when the last roll call was going on. All the Congress Ministers were stunned. They couldn’t believe their eyes! After roll call, Swamy made a point of order, and he said “between sessions, democracy has died”. The Chairman dismissed the Point of Order and Swamy staged a walk out. Then he went to a mandir where he changed clothes, and became a Sardar again. At the railway station, security was beefed up and everyone was looking for a Professor of Harvard, last seen dressed up in , who had gall to face the might of Indira Gandhi. But that fellow got into the train and went off to sleep. A senior police official was travelling with him and he asked Swamy about his profession. Swamy said he was a Professor of Economics at Harvard. Later, he turned out to be IG of Police of MP.

This incident was celebrated worldwide and it got the attention of international media. And so, international institutions started building huge pressure on Gandhi to withdraw emergency. Not only this, Swamy also helped Morarji in making him PM, who abrogated all laws passed in the emergency.

This is the story of how Subramaniam Swamy left Indira Gandhi red-faced. She could not even catch a proclaimed offender!

I am starting this thread just to elaborate how delusional Indians are from top to bottom. The assault by Taliban today in Kunduz have really unnerved the Indian establishment and their proxies. They have been working overtime to figure out ways to counter our moves and to destabilise the region further. I would request my countrymen to counter their propaganda on the social media with full might.
Subramanian Swamy is a former BJP minister and member of the upper house. His views are heard and acted upon by the BJP think tank. I consider him next to Ajit Doval in policy making viz a viz Pakistan. Today he sent out a message on the social media ,though silly but must be taken seriously.

Another one of his muppet disciples had this to say.

I strongly feel its time to stop internal bickering and focus on the true enemy.I hope we will agree to this.
Please stick together irrespective of the other brother who isn't behaving
Muster the courage to be the bigger man

Swami is such an idiot of a fool. Hahaha.
If Hindu army lands in Afghanistan, pashtuns would annihilate them in the very first week. I'm a pashtun, I know how we all feel about them.

I for one will be happy to see Indians sending their troops to Afghanistan to please the US. It will be like a dream come true for our top brass and Taliban. After decimating the Indians with our help, the next stop for the Taliban will be definitely Srinagar.
For a Hindu army, they won't even need our help, they would eat them alive, tear them apart with their bare hands, fight with stones and their teeth.

I'm a pathan, I know.

India would not send its troops to either GB or Afghanistan rather it would be Taliban ruling from Kashmir to Kunduz.

The moot question is will Taliban be working for US or Pakistan?

Well you see, at least the pashtun population is deeply in favor of Pakistan. Their elders came here, earned a living for their families, when circumstances were very unforgiving during the Soviet war. There are Afghan families who have not gone back to Afghanistan with Pakistani ID cards, living very peacefully in my village, whom I would trust more than others.

So Taliban would always be in favor of Pakistan, as the core of the Taliban is pashtun.

My two cents.

I get your point. You have a problem with a Hindu army in Afghanistan.

But what if India sends a Muslim Army?

What if India sends a division of only Pathan soldiers?

In all seriousness, India is not going to fight America's war. There will be no Indian soldiers in Afghanistan, except maybe in advisory role to the government of Afghanistan.
