What's new

Social media is lying to you about Burma’s Muslim ‘cleansing’

So... still no proof then.

If the Burmese have nothing to hide then they should open up the area for international journalists. Why is it not open? What are the Burmese hiding?

That said fake video's and photo's do not support the Rohingya cause, those idiots that are using these should realize that they are hurting the credibility of the news about a real ongoing ethnic cleansing that has been going on for decades. Apparently these poor Rohingya's who are virtual slaves in their land do not have access to mobile phones or camera's to record the atrocities. But Ronigya's that are coming over to Bangladesh, they are telling first hand accounts of what happened. Rohingya's need to get better organized about recording the crimes and then disseminate them. This is the least they can do to take their message to the world community.

But regardless of how inept Rohingya's are about recording the crimes committed by Burmese on them, the biggest proof we have for this ethnic cleanisng is about 300,000 (official) to 500,000 (unofficial) Rohingya refugee's sitting in Bangladesh and not willing to go back, despite the pretty bad condition of living at the refugee camps. And there are another 500,000 to 700,000 Rohingya's living as refugees in regional and other countries (India, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia etc.).

Since Burmese cannot and will not open up the area, we have to go by what Rohingya's are saying that the death toll so far has been about 20,000 people killed. The burden of proving that this is false is on the Burmese.

Surely the burden of proof is on the accuser?

Nah, the term cyber-jihad has been used before, just google it.

Fakery and deception don't help one gain sympathy. It only belittles the seriousness of the issue. You know crying wolf and all that.

No I meant on this forum lol. No it does not belittle the seriousness of the issue rather draws attention to something that otherwise would go unnoticed.

So... still no proof then.

Surely the burden of proof is on the accuser?

Only in the USA buddy.

Its BAL that refused it not muslims. Do you know that bangladeshis in teknaf areas are getting
arrested for giving shelter to the rohingyas by not abiding by this Dalal gov directive. Even BGB
are lax on this issue. This is the only time that rohingyas were denied shelter thanks to this
terrorist , anti-state fagotic org called BAL. Previously 3 times of mass exodus of rohingyas , they were given shelter during BNP era. BD has some 800000 rohingyas and PAK, malaysia and indonesia
also has many. There is more rohingyas in muslims countries than in Burma and BD has the largest chunk of it. My country is currently ruled by mirjafars not muslims. But don't bother with it
if your brain can't handle it.:coffee:

So, they are still your brothers in need, they are muslims you can protest the government to take them in yet there are no protest. There are no firm reply by any muslim government to Burma. You are blaming other nations yet you yourself are doing nothing.

Attention evereyone!! Attention everyone!! Attention everyone!!!

India which instigated and supported Myanamar ethnic cleansing are telling the truth and rest of the world telling lie.

Can you tell us where we supported or instigated the killing.

Myanmar religious cleansing: Crime against humanity

In view of the ongoing inhumane violations in Myanmar, the US and its western allies, which keep pontificating about human rights in the world, have feigned ignorance about this humanitarian catastrophe. Why? Because they will not be able to reap any benefits of their future efforts in the country as they do in the Middle East and elsewhere. To crown it all, they have kept an agonizingly meaningful silence over the massacre."

Described as the Palestine of Asia by the UN, the Rohingya Muslim community in Myanmar is currently going through an unutterable ordeal at the hands of the Rakhine extremist Buddhists in Arakan who are targeting the Muslim minority with the worst form of religious cleansing.

Ethnic cleansing is rife in Myanmar and is turning into a human tragedy of colossal proportions. A confidential United Nations report dated May 29, 2011 and marked “Not for Public Citation or Distribution”, defines ethnic cleansing as a “purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent and terror-inspiring means the civilian population of another ethnic or religious group from certain geographic areas.”

What is happening in Myanmar to the Rohingya Muslims violates international laws and is to be categorized as crime against humanity.

Unfortunately, the Myanmar peace prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the plight of the Rohingya Muslims. Maybe she has forgotten her own words on democracy and human rights that, “The struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma is a struggle for life and dignity.”

Reportedly, the settlement of the Rohingya Muslims in this region dates back to the eighth century. However, in the seventies, the junta embarked on a systematic program of religious cleansing of the Rohingya Muslims who are denied their basic rights, i.e. the right to freedom of movement, marriage, faith, identity, ownership, language, heritage and culture, citizenship, education etc. Deplorable as it is, the Muslims in Myanmar are among the most persecuted minorities in the world according to UN.

According to reports, 650 of nearly one million Rohingya Muslims have been murdered as of June 28. On the other hand, 1,200 others are missing and 90,000 more have been displaced.

US photographer Greg Constantine has recently released a book of black and white photography titled “Exiled to Nowhere: Burma’s Rohingya.” He believes that “One of the things that is lost in the discussions of the issues of statelessness-particularly with the Rohingya-are human stories.”

He relates the story of 20-year-old Kashida who had to “flee to Bangladesh with her husband. The Burmese authorities had denied her permission to get married, but when they discovered she had married in secret and was pregnant they took away all her family’s money and cows and goats. They forced Kashida to have an abortion, telling her: “This is not your country; you don’t have the right to reproduce here.”

The dire humanitarian crisis has already begun to assume tragic proportions and Muslims and non-Muslims alike are beginning to respond with perturbation and fear.

Iran's Foreign Ministry has called for end to violence in Myanmar.

“It is expected that the Myanmar government will prepare the ground for solidarity, national unity and asserting the rights of Muslims in the country and that it will avert violence and a human catastrophe in this regard,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Monday.

Iranian lawmaker Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini has suggested that the Islamic Republic of Iran should call on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to hold an ad hoc meeting concerning the Muslim massacre in Myanmar.

Also, the president of India’s Jamiat Ulma-i-Hind has voiced concern about the massacre, calling for an end to the humanitarian crisis in the country. Maulana Syed Arshad Madani lashed out at the Myanmar government for being indifferent to the massacre of Muslims by extremist Buddhists. He also criticized the silence of the international community and human rights organizations across the world about this humanitarian tragedy.

The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has strongly condemned the brutal massacre perpetrated against the Rohingya Muslims and has demanded that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) take necessary and urgent steps to prevent religious cleaning and these crimes against humanity in this region.

The statement reads, “The IUMS is reviewing in all concern what has befallen the Muslims in the Muslim region of Arakan, Burma, of fierce killing, displacement and persecution since a long time, not to mention displacement of them, and demolition of their homes, properties and mosques at the hands of the religious extremists in the Buddhist community. Unfortunately, the Buddhist government acts as a bystander in face of the heinous massacres escalating day after day against the Muslim minorities in the country. The numbers of casualties, in the attacks that are considered the most ferocious in the history of targeting the Muslims in Burma, are countless.”

It is certainly incumbent upon every person who cares about human dignity to fly in the face of this inhumanity and give a helping hand to the downtrodden Myanmar Muslims.

As the great Persian poet Sa'di says, “Human beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul. If one member is afflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain. If you've no sympathy for human pain, The name of human you cannot retain!”

This thread is living example of that.

So you are taking the thread as a proof, good for you sir. There are threads that talk about aliens coming to earth to eat human brain so should I take your word and consider that the truth also.

I think as Bangladeshi expats we need to coordinate with the Rohingya expats and start organizing protest marches on this issue, in front of Burma embassies and consulates.

This oft-repeated figure of 650 killed and 1200 missing comes from the mouth of one man:

As many as 650 Rohingyas have been killed, 1,200 are missing and more than 80,000 have been displaced since sectarian violence erupted, said Tun Khin, the President of the Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK), contradicting official reports that place the death toll at 80.

http://www.dvb.no/news/burmese-authorities-targeting-rohingyas-uk-parliament-told/22676

Now, he has no evidence for this other than wild estimates and hearsay. But those who are desperate to be outraged take this as gospel.

This can go much bigger than what Myanmar and indians have intended. Infact this will come back to bite them badly. That is why indians and Myanmar is scrambling to propagate nothing serious happened, not many people killed etc. bs. Perhaps, for first time Bangladesh can get hold of missile tech that neither indians and or Myanmar wanted. Indians for their part rolling back any advantage it created by dividing Pakistan by their own effort. It just getting interesting and amusing to see indians keep shooting at their feet.

Again we say, we need to see to believe recorded by neutral observers and journalists, so Arakan must be opened up to world media and UN investigators. If they cannot open up, then the Burmese are hiding something. If it is 80 or 1850 or 20,000 let journalists and neutral UN investigators find out.

A comment from above posted article:

if don’t accept the death figures quoted by mr.tin khin then why are u not allowing international medias to find out the facts free and fair inquiry must be done due to lace of free media still arresting and abusing are going on.

Also check out other racist comments of Burmese after any Rohingya related articles. I think it is good that they finally expose the dirt in their little minds to the world through the internet.

Social media is lying to you about Burma’s Muslim ‘cleansing’

Social networking sites are abuzz with news about Muslims being killed in Burma. You can see the sporadic posting of pictures by different people with captions like ‘Muslims killing in Burma’, ‘Muslims slaughtered by Buddhists in Burma’ and so on.

Thus, I took on the mission to sort the truth out for myself once and for all and researched some pictures that I felt were dubious. Below are a few pictures and their original copies. You can evidently see the gross difference between them and how they are thrown out of context.

This was a picture shared on Facebook.

I have found the original version which reads differently to the the one posted on the social networking site.

576223_10150986273843261_2009177501_n.jpg

This picture was taken in 2010 after an earthquake in China and captures the efforts put in by the Tibetans to help rescue the victims. Now, Islamic political parties and some other elements are sharing this image as Muslim killing and their slaughter in Burma.

Another widely circulated picture captioned “More then 1,000 people killed in Burma” is also fake.

575850_422729151098985_1400558517_n.jpg

The original, as you can see below, is taken in Thailand in the year 2004. This picture shows protesters that were tear-gassed outside the Tal Bai police station in Bangkok. This is roughly 1,409.9 km away from Burma! What is grossly negligent about these photos is the factual ignorance of the hate these misleading photos can culminate.

VOICE-LIBERTY-NATIONAL-093950.png

Below, please find another image which was posted online, this time with an imprint of Jamaat-e-Islami on the top left . It reads ‘Terrorists of Budhism of Burma kills 500 Muslims’.

As you can guess, this is also a fabricated picture.

Terrorists-of-Budhism-of-Burma-Kills-500-Muslims-at-the-Beach-today-753438.jpg

In reality, this image belongs to a Human Rights violation incident by the Thai authorities against the Rohingya ethnic minority of Burma. These refugees were detained for a few weeks and then sent off drifting into the sea.

Here is another instance of such fallacy spreading across the social media sites regarding the massacre of Muslims in Burma.

fb-image.jpg

This picture is extremely misleading considering that the original image was about the riots in Thailand that took place in 2003!

Now, take a look at the image below and observe how it is blown out of context.

fb-image02.jpg

Now, view the original.

fb-image02-origi-700x1024.jpg

The original picture is not even remotely close to what the picture above states. In fact, a Tibetan protester had set himself on fire in protest prior to the arrival of Chinese president Hu Jintao and that too in Delhi.

I do not deny the killings of Muslims in Burma – not even for a minute. I think it is horrific and I am sympathetic towards the immense loss being suffered by my Muslim brothers and sisters abroad.

What I am against is being lied to. Imagine the amount of lies we are being fed through these pictures. How can one trust any image online if such drastic manipulation and editing is being done to cater to someone’s political or personal agenda?

Social media and networking sites, if used properly, can be an impressive tool in spreading awareness amongst its users, but it can be an equally dangerous median as well if misused.

These images are false and are only igniting hatred and prejudice in our youth.

We need to become more vigilant and aware of the credibility and authenticity of pictures we browse through. It only takes one wrong image to push us over the edge towards extremism.

Wow! You really need to get a life if you can do all that research on events that happens everyday around the world. Burmese killing Muslims, and spread of lies using stolen photos...it's a never ending thing, I'm not surprised if Muslims are using this to hype up their numbers...I mean this is the same crap Awami League used in 1971 to gain support...so in conclusion...why do you care
