Putting up a stiff resistance and holding your own hardly means beating anyone.

Pakistan attacked, first, through SSG forces, 22 such contingents, in J&K, second, across the border with armour and all arms across the Jammu Tawi. That was hardly a defensive move. 21 of 22 companies got butchered, the attempt at cutting the 'Chicken's Neck' failed.
