Region as a whole fare pretty pathetic.. Nothing to be proud of

SL, best place to be a mother in S/Asia

Sri Lanka is the best place to be a mother in South Asia, a latest study released by the Save the Children said.

Sri Lanka ranks 89th, Nepal 116th, Bangladesh 130th and India 137th, Pakistan ranks 147th

Save the Children's annual State of World's Mothers Report 2014, now in its fifteenth edition, compares 178 countries around the globe, showing which are succeeding - and which are failing - in saving and improving the lives of mothers and their children.

Overall, Finland was ranked the best place to be a mother for the second straight year and Somalia came in last. Finland, Norway and Sweden top the ranking this year.

The top 10 countries, majority of them European countries, in general attain very high scores for mothers' and children's health, educational, economic and political status. While the 10 bottom-ranked countries-all but one of them from West and Central Africa- are a reverse image of the top 10 countries.

The United States ranks 31st

seriously SL is doing really great in every sector :enjoy:

Countries with small populations tend to fare better. Giant super states like India are created and maintained because of men's egos.

Being 89th is something that we should be ashamed of.

Actually we were in 1948.

That's an understatement. Look at China or USA.

China lags behind its East Asian neighbours. The US lags behind other anglophone countries like Canada, Australia, Uk etc..

Ideally the whole region should be doing much better than being at the throats of each other, Building space junk and buying war machines

By building space junks if you mean our national space program is a utter waste then you are wrong it has application in wide range areas including development of country. PS those are not junks those are engineering marvels which we have achieved after years of dedication and hardwork which only 4 or 5 other advance countries have achieve before that too at monstrous cost compared to ours.

Well if you're blind jingoism makes you feel proud then good for you, Though it matter zilch to those thousands of poor mothers and kids that die every day of malnutrition and at child birth, When just a fraction of what is spend on the dick measurement contests would save thousands of valuable lives

Btw my comment was not aimed at any specific country but to all of S/Asia that has their priorities wrong

Congrats SL!
Wish we would all better our scores!

I could have agreed with the war machines part.
But India's space program is almost completely dedicated to uplift the country - from telemedicines, to tele-schooling, to disaster management, to fishing, land use mapping, etc.

ISRO has been helping the common man greatly.

Not to mention, ISRO earns its keep by launching satellites for foreign customers.
