I think as a defence forum, dead soldiers in uniform of all countries must be respected here. Instead of trying to educate jihadi fools, mods should enforce this rule.

You have 1,000 troops. Let's divide them...

950 of them are professionals, of strong moral character, who have no desire to kill but will do so to defend themselves, their families, friends, and homeland.

40 of them are a bit "loose" in the head, and will do bizarre things - collect ears, pose for disgusting photos.

10 of them are closet sociopathic brutal murderers who secretly enjoy the act of killing.

Photographs of the 40 are taken. Stories of the 10 are written. And the 950 are unfairly made out to be monsters by association.

To those with kind words re: my daughter, thank you. She is home, doing well, and looking forward to becoming a hospital worker. She can and does tell some harrowing stories.

She brought back some wonderful gifts. The silks and textiles (like the scarves) are wonderully made, very beautiful. And she came home with a love for the regional food, and is a naan bread addict, but she says "It's hard to find good naan bread here... it's not fresh."

The first post is reflective of an immature mind and not even worthy of mention. If you have known one thing about me, it is that I dont stoop to this level. I have reported so many posts yesterday, this one must have escaped my radar. As to my sentiments regarding this and the incidents in karachi, they were both condemnable. This sort of behaviour although defies logic, is a manifestation of prolonged wars and has been seen in many instances before as well. Where ever it appears it needs to be condemned and I will support your supposition in this matter without any prejudice. The problem is that US has always portrayed itself as the champion of democracy and all that is good. Even now in spite of any tangible gain in the War on terror, the rhetoric goes on and the returning soldiers are welcomed as heroes who have achieved a great victory when the truth is as far from it as can be. Indeed all that the US has done is stirred a hornets nest and then run for the region to suffer the consequences. It is in light of thier own claims that when you see pictures of Abu Ghuraib, or this one, that the deceit and the dichotomy between words and action becomes manifest. In many ways the outpouring of the emotions on this forum are reflective of this rather than the actual act. You can see far worst acts being committed by the nazis , or in palestine by the Israeli Army.

This is the post of the week as far as i am concerned. A true reflection of how wars and prolonged strugles brutalize people into hedonistic acts. All irrespective of who commits them are condemnable. Principles should stand above nationalities.

You are a senior member. Please avoid making such comments. It is not about hindustani or pakistani. The Average American is a very nice , hard working and honest guy, mostly god fearing, upright and just. It is not them that are at fault, it is the six or 7 men at the top who make policies like that to suit their own petty interests. This is the problem. The massive arms industry needs to sell arms to justify spending billions on weapons that are perhaps not even needed.It is this massive industrial juggeranut which has repeatedly driven Americans to war . they are the ones who buy their own policy makers toi advance their vested interests in the Capital hill.

Absolutely correct. A dead man should be respected and given as decent a burial a circumstances allow.

Of course, some should be actively assisted in dying for what they believe in, but once dead, a certain modicum of respect is owed to them too.

Do you see American members on this forum or even Indian members celebrating the death of our soldiers? The Taliban are shown respect, ask an American solider and they will describe them as formidable opponents. It amazes them how an Average Talib just has stale naan, a rusty Kalsh, and sandals/flip flops and is still able to launch attack or trek hundreds of miles to wage war.
