I'm afraid this is all wrong, For the most part, what you call "Progressive Muslims" do not think Islam is bad in any way. I think you mean "Reformist" Muslims who want Ijtihad to be used in the current situation of Islamic laws, in that case they don't think Islam is bad or wrong and instead believe that it needs to be updated by adding provisions that go with Islam and getting rid of other provisions that go against the spirit of Islam like certain debatable hadiths that are used as the basis of a lot of oppressive laws and or terrorism.
