ISLAMABAD - The Senate Standing Committee on Defense Production was told on Thursday that Pakistan is fully prepared to respond to any aggression.
It was also told that Pakistan has the capability to build all kinds of drones.
The committee, which met under the chairmanship of Abdul Qayyum, was told that the AWACS aircraft, got damaged in the terrorist attack on Kamra, has been repaired costing 15 million dollars and made operational in ten month time.
The meeting was informed that the design of JF-17 Thunder fighter jets was also prepared by Pakistani engineers.
The fighter jet has the capability to carry all kinds of warheads.
On the occasion, officials of Pakistan Navy told the meeting that the feasibility study has been prepared to build shipyard at Gwadar sea port.

SLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production on Thursday endorsed the recommendation of Ministry of Defence Production to separate its budget from the Ministry of Defence.
Senator Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qayyum chaired a meeting of the committee at Parliament House on Thursday during which the committee was told by Minister of Defence Production Rana Tanweer Hussain that a lot of time is wasted in moving files between the two ministries to get the allocated budget.
The committee also recommended that work on establishing a shipyard at Gwadar Port be expedited so that Pakistan could make maximum use of the potential of its long coastline. It also endorsed the proposals for up-gradation of existing facilities in the only shipyard of Pakistan in Karachi.
The committee meeting was primarily aimed at having a preliminary coordination with all heads of attached departments and sub-ordinate offices under the administrative control of Ministry of Defence Production. The meeting became a high-profile event with the attendance of Lt Gen. Syed Wajid Hussain, Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila, Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed, Chairman Pakistan Aeronautical Complex KAMRA, Maj Gen Muazzam Goraya, Director General MRDE, Muhammad Asif, Acting Chairman Pakistan Ordnance Factory Board, Maj Gen Agha Masood Ahsan, Director General Defence Export Promotion Organisation, Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Naik Shah, Managing Director Karachi Shipyard, Brigader Iftikhar Ahmed, National Radio Telecommunication Corporation and other senior officers from the ministry.
The committee was told that stalls from 36 countries were set up in the recent International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) held in Karachi under Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO) and the world has started realising Pakistan’s defence production industry’s potential. The committee agreed that the defence production industry of Pakistan has two major missions before itself – one to maintain Pakistan’s territorial integrity by generating own industry and two to utilise the surplus capacity for commercialisation. The committee members were of the view that this industry has to be made self-sustaining so that it supports the economy rather than becoming a burden on it.
After seeing the presentations by all departments of the ministry, the committee unanimously agreed that Pakistan takes pride and confidence in its defence production and all efforts required for boosting the defence production industry will be taken. In his concluding remarks the committee chairman said that the country’s defence production industry is second to none. He also emphasised enhancing security of defence production installations in the country. The meeting was attended among others by Senator Brig (r) John Kenneth Williams, Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Senator Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Senator Gianchand, Senator Rubina Irfan, Senator Gul Bashra, Senator Sitara Ayaz, Senator Rubina Khalid, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanweer Hussain and Ministry of Defence Production Secretary Lt Gen (r) Syed Muhammad Owais.

PAF engineers restore AWACS 'back to life' at half cost

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Kamra Aeronautical Complex has made the Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) aircraft operational on Thursday. 15 million dollars have been saved due to the indigenous repair to the aircraft. Feasibility study of Gwadar deep waters shipyard has also been completed, reported Dunya News.
Pakistani engineers have repaired the AWACS aircraft, which is now available for service once again. The aircraft had been damaged in an attack by terrorists during an attack on Kamra aeronautical complex.
According to American aircraft engineers, estimated repair cost of the aircraft has been halved. At the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production, it was informed that the aircraft which had been damaged during Kamra terrorist attack has been made operational in ten months.
US aircraft maintenance engineers had estimated a cost of $ 30 million for the repair while the Pakistani engineers have repaired it in $15 million.
Defence Committee was informed that Pakistan can manufacture every kind of drone while progress is being made to indigenously produce Al-Khalid III tank.
According to Navy officials, feasibility study of Gwadar deep water shipyard has been completed and only the approval from PM is required. The Committee was informed that Turkey has also sought help of Pakistan to manufacture fighter jets.
