The British Consul General in Jeddah, Mohammed Shawkat praised the strong bilateral trade and economic relations between Saudi Arabia and Britain describing them as “excellent.”
Shawkat was speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the British Catalogs Exhibition hosted by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
The exhibition aims to create business partnerships and economic ties between the two countries in the fields of education, training, food and beverages, health services and tourism as well as municipal services, project management, engineering and project design.
Shawkat pointed out that his tour to the Saudi Chambers of Commerce follows his visit to the Makkah Chamber and aims to introduce British companies which are seeking to form new partnerships. Currently, there are 349 economic investment and trade projects between the two countries which are being implemented in various fields.
Shawkat described the volume of trade exchange between the Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom at more than SR 23.3 billion. Both countries he said are linked with a number of economic and cultural memoranda of understanding and agreements including an agreement to avoid double taxation and a memorandum of understanding in the fields of technical and professional training, tourism, health, youth and sports.
He expressed his keenness on boosting economic ties with Saudi businessmen in Jeddah and thanked the Jeddah Chamber for its efforts to embrace the British Catalogs Exhibition which he says will contribute to enhancing the volume of trade between the two countries by providing opportunities that would foster investment by both British and Saudi companies.
Secretary General of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce, Adnan Mandoura, confirmed that the British Catalogs Exhibition organized by the British Consulate in cooperation with the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce aims to provide various business sectors in Jeddah with suitable investment opportunities. Mandoura said that the exhibition is a unique opportunity to gain knowledge about British products and services, specifically in the medical and educational fields.
