Army Chief of Staff Gen. Hussein Bin Abdullah Al Gobail of Saudi Arabia paid an official visit to Ankara last week. He met with his counterpart the Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel. He was also accepted by President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to the daily newspaper, Vatan, such a high level of acceptance for Gobail was because of $2 billion arms sale. For various reasons KSA will always go for US products , stop wishful thinking.

KSA markets in specific is very diversified, they bought arms from Germany, France, Britain, China, Brazil, South Africa, Finland, Spain, Netherlands, Turkey and USA. I'm not sure about Anka as KSA is very interested in the UAE United-40. But as for Altay it's likely since they have been looking for a tank that suits their needs and Altay could be the one.

Let me put what i meant this way:

-Quality: Do any Turk here dare to say say our products better than US counterparts? A big NO of course so why would KSA go for our unproven military products when they can all buy proven , widely used and open to modernization in future US arms?

-Price: The main reason Turkey managed to sell some arms because we sold them cheaper than US ,Europen and Russian counterparts so why the hell of a rich country like KSA go our products when they can buy most expensive weapon systems in West?

-Embargo: Unlike many countries(even US allies) KSA most of time free of strings , dont have bother with US Senate resolutions thanks to its generous lobbying power , this is one of the reasons how we(also Israel) sold our product to many countries who don't want to trouble with political strings coming with US arms.

It's true to some extent, but as you know tanks are designed and manufactured to meet the manufacturer requirements and needs, and it seems that KSA has not been satisfied with the Abrams and that's why they have been trying to get Leopard 2 A6/7. America could have superior tech but they don't sell everything for instance, their Predator UAV and if they sold sth, it would be very unlikely to give TOT , while countries like Turkey is very generous in selling their home-made arms without constraints and TOT. Thanx to Turkey, it sat up an industry to manufacture optical devices in Jordan (Aselan) which couldn't have happened with other countries. As far as I'm concerned, Turkish arms have proved their world class quality that made many countries choose them.

Quality...

All your weapons (Turkey) produced are ‘technicals standards NATO’ (Absolute obligation, the rule. More for second member of alliance). Therefore of equal quality and even superior to others weapons produced of others members North Atlantic Treaty Organization, USA including.

But the biggest reason is that the world has changed. Now it is multipolar, completely globalized. With others news strategic alliances.

And for those who don't know, Abdullah Gul speaks fluent Arabic. :coffee:

Never seen non native Arab speaks fluent Arabic :D, he could speak it though as he had worked in KSA for a while before he became a president.

the only good side of saudis is that they are ****** rich. in 2011 usa's weapon sales revenue was 66.3 billion usd and 33.4 billion of this was from sales to saudis alone. yağlı müşteri, as called in turkish. i'm pretty ******* sure the vehicles they buy will rot in their hangars but couldn't care less. let turkish defense industry make some quick buck :)

Lets look at this "possible" deal with another perspective..Imho this "possible" deal means something else rather than just military procurement..Turkey and GCC countries+Egypt+Jordan relations have gained a new momentum in late 2000s..Remember, GCC foreign ministers declared Turkey a Strategic Partner in 2008 and such military deals are only the reflection of this relation..So i am not surprised with such news at all and i expect there will be more
