Saudi Arabia ‘has evidence of Qatari meddling’
Qatar faces ‘total isolation’ says Gulf diplomat

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has documentary evidence proving that Qatari officials have plotted to destabilise the country, a Gulf diplomat told an Egyptian journalist.

The editor in chief of the Egyptian newspaper Al Shurooq said on Egypt’s Al Tahreer TV that Saudi Arabia has credible documentary evidence proving that Qatar’s security services encouraged former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi to assassinate Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz when he was crown prince. The editor in chief, Emad Al Deen Hussain, cited a “Gulf diplomatic source who attended Arab foreign ministers’ meetings”.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain recalled their ambassadors from Qatar on March 5 in protest of what they said was Doha’s refusal to stop interference in their affairs.

The revelation comes as a Gulf diplomat, in an interview with Gulf News, warned that Qatar faces “total isolation” from Gulf states if it continues to try to destabilise regional governments and does not stop supporting regional parties that are seen as contributing to regional instability.

Saudi Arabia has called on Qatar to sever relations with the Muslim Brotherhood and stop sheltering its figures, sever links to Al Houthi rebels in Yemen, and close down two think tanks seen as hostile to the Gulf states. Qatar has so far refused the demands.

It is not clear if the documentary evidence that Saudi Arabia reportedly holds has been presented to Qatar yet. Qatar has insisted that Saudi Arabia back its charges against it with evidence.
The Gulf diplomat told Gulf News that the Gulf spat has affected the agenda for US President Barack Obama’s upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia, where he was initially scheduled to meet all six heads of state from the Gulf Cooperation Council. He will now only meet Saudi King Abdullah.

Al Shurooq’s Hussain said that Saudi Arabia is now studying implementing “phase 2” of diplomatic action against Qatar for its continued defiance of its neighbours.
Regional media has speculated that the airspace of the three countries as well as Qatar’s only land border with Saudi Arabia. Qatar imports the vast majority of its food, much of it via the border with Saudi Arabia.

It is no hidden fact that this will mainly affect Qatari citizens as most of their imports of basic commodities and food are sourced from the Saudi agriculture sector.
People here pin much hope on Kuwait’s mediation efforts to repair the rift and prevent the disintegration of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Qatar has been accused also of interfering in the internal affairs of other GCC states.
GCC governments have been aware of Qatar’s position for some time but a wider public also came to know the dangers of Qatar’s position when former Qatari Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Hamad Al Thani, was recorded describing the Saudi government as an “old regime, with old rulers, that must end in 20 years time.”

This has been going on for sometime.
Qatar firing GCC nationals frm their jobs is no joke.
Qataris here fear they would soon loose their jobs in retaliation.

Wolves fighting !
Just that wolves are not of the same size.
Saudi is a lot more mightier country than Qatar. If the issue escalates then Qatar would be annexed in no time.

@levina thank you for that article. I hope that everything is well with you.

Well, you are right about the agricultural sector. Qatar imports a lot of agricultural products from KSA. If Qatar boycotted Qatar for real or threatened to throw them out of the GCC which KSA is the head of de facto and UAE is second, then they would not survive long despite all their riches. One should not forget that Qatar is a Peninsula and borders KSA directly. Most of their interaction with the remaining world is not by sea but by land.

Qatar will be tamed. It's inevitable. A little barking dog is a good description of them. KSA will annex them one day. It's KSA land anyway and belongs to the historical region of Eastern Arabia and all the ancient civilizations native to that area of the Peninsula of which all and most of their land was located in the Eastern Province of KSA.

Qatar has long been disruptive and I have had a long dislike for their leadership. They are punching WAY above their weight and causing problems but nothing that serious yet.

I think that the natural reaction is to underestimate them due to their size but it must be said that they have been extremely good at punching above their weight. In fact more than any other small country I can think off. They have a lot of influence in the West too and many investments.

I think that this can be solved though.

The relations were better when Khalifa was the Emir but he got deposed by his own son, our favorite gif Hamad, who in turn was "deposed" last year and replaced by his son, Tamim. All 3 are alive though. Only in Qatar. I wonder how their gatherings are if they have any contact.

Wikileaks showed that western intelligence pointed out that Qatar is not very helpful when it comes to cooperating on terrorism intelligence.

Yet still we let them bribe us into giving them the world cup. A tiny country without footballing tradition. Now European football seasons will be screwed up to accommodate Qatar's climate ARGH!

Yet the West, especially UK and USA, are happy about all the investments Qatar is doing and the oil and gas that they import. USA also have an base in Qatar which is strategically located in the middle of the Gulf.

I don't know how this happened but obviously corruption was involved. If Qatar had many mountainous regions such as KSA and cities in those mountainous provinces they could have easily have held and World Cup during summer. But the Khaleeji states have the highest temperatures during the summer in all of the ME together with Southern Iraq and parts of Iran. It made no sense. In the winter the temperatures are pleasant though. Had Yemen been a rich and prosperous country then hosting it would be perfect since most of their cities have a perfect climate all year around. Starting with the capital Sana'a that is located nearly 2500 meters above sea level.

Anyway I don't know what Qatar is thinking and why they are supporting the MB. I have a suspicion that they stroke a deal with them. In case of any revolutions in the GCC, unlikely, and in case MB gained power Qatar would remain save. Something along those lines because their behavior is very, very odd.

Hopefully Qatar will join the motherland Iran soon.
Even though they are very rich, I don't think they'll want to subsidise the third world nation and pay for the medicines Iranians can't afford.

So I don't think it will happen.

Qatar has nothing to do with Iran nor does any other place on the Arabian Peninsula or the Arab world.

Qatar belonged to the ancient and native Semitic civilizations of Eastern Arabia starting with the nearly 5000 year old Dilmun civilization that was a trading partner of ancient Mesopotamia next by and the Indus Valley Civilization across the Gulf and Arabian Sea and various of other ancient civilizations.

No need to troll here. Let's have a serious discussion for once.

Am not trolling. Qatar and Bahrain should be be reclaimed by Iran. Hopefully in the future it will join the motherland. Will take time, but we have patience. Insha'Allah

Do you really think possible that a tiny country like that wants to face a country about 30 times bigger?

Have you forgot that the days of empires are gone? Did you not follow the world's reaction to the events in Crimea? And that's Russia, a world power, restoring order in their neighborhood.

USA has an military base in Qatar of strategic importance. Any invasion or annexation of Qatar cannot happen without them saying yes. Just as what happened in Bahrain when KSA invaded it to restore order which was a success. Both the Bahraini government and our American allies gave the go and permission otherwise it would have been an act of war. KSA is not a pariah state and wars are always the last option.

As this is related to what we have discussed, I'll put this link here.

New corruption charges against Qatar over world cup bid

BBC Sport - Qatar defends 2022 World Cup bid after payment allegations

Qatar's World Cup organising committee has defended its bid to host the 2022 tournament following newspaper claims casting doubt on the process.

Former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner and his family were paid more than £1m by a company owned by an ex-football official from Qatar, a Daily Telegraph report claims.

But Qatar's World Cup organising committee said its bid adhered to Fifa rules and it was "unaware of any allegations surrounding business dealings between private individuals".

The newspaper claims Warner and his sons appear to have been paid £1.2m by a company owned by Mohamed Bin Hammam.

Some of the payments were allegedly made shortly after Qatar won the right to host the 2022 World Cup.

Mr Bin Hammam was a powerful figure within Fifa for many years but was given a life ban in 2012 by the governing body following allegations of "conflicts of interest" during his time as the head of Asian football.

The new documents, which the Telegraph claims to have seen, may now attract the attention of Fifa's chief ethics investigator, Michael Garcia, who is looking into how both the 2018 and 2022 tournaments were awarded.

In a statement, Qatar's World Cup organisers said: "The 2022 bid committee strictly adhered to Fifa's bidding regulations in compliance with their code of ethics.

"The supreme committee for delivery and legacy and the individuals involved in the 2022 bid committee are unaware of any allegations surrounding business dealings between private individuals."

Both Warner and Bin Hammam declined to comment when contacted by the BBC over the allegations in the Daily Telegraph.
