Saras: How much indigenous is it???

Lol design. Aren't the propellers meant to steer wind onto wings? :?

3 pilots dead in aircraft crash near Bangalore

BANGALORE: A light transport Saras aircraft crashed at 3.50 pm on Friday near Bidadi, 40 kms from Bangalore, killing its three pilots. ( Watch )

Charred bodies of Wing Commander Praveen, Wing Commander Shah and Squadron Leader Ilayaraja were retrieved from the wreckage of the aircraft which was completely destroyed in the accident, police said.

The aircraft was second prototype of Saras and was on its test flight schedule, a top official of state-run National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) said.

"The aircraft lost control and crash-landed near Bidadi," he said adding, "We lost three crew members". The crew members were experienced persons drawn from Air Force.

On the cause of the crash, he said, "It is too early to say.... An inquiry would be conducted". The aircraft, which is an 8 to 14-seater, was on its 49th test flight.

On whether the crash was a setback to the Saras project, he said, "It should not have happened...Yes there will be a setback... but we need to move forward and see what has to be done".

Design could be an issue, but so far its not successful project

Yup, There certainly were some Unchecked Parameters, But Saras is no more an Active project, we have RTA-70 and MTA-Passenger Aircraft going on Instead

If there is room, Saras should be built, as its a small aircraft for about 10-14 people capacity and it will fill its own role in the market for small transport aircraft.

The ones you mentioned are larger ones for passenger transport, but Saras can work where such large aircraft are not required, for VIP transport, Indian armed forces can use it for their own transport purposes.

Yeah thats true, But who knows, We might revive it at any point of time.... But as of Now, there is Only one Propeller and One jet engined Civil aircrafts under scanner, and that RTA-70 and MTA-Passenger Aircraft. ....

Saras needs some changes do be done, Hope it would be.

Just looked around a bit, Apparently the design was bought from Russian firm MDB, after design firm could not continue with the indo-russia venture duet.

After spending countless time trying to figure out what went wrong, NAl has called in original designer to show them the way.

an MDB design team from Russia will be in NAL from 17th May 2010, for four weeks for discussion on SARAS aircraft development. The team consists of Dr. Alexander Bruk, Chief Designer, Dr. Alexander Arkhipov, Deputy Chief Designer, Dr. Victor Frolovskiy, Department of Design, Dr. Eduard Abramenko, Chief Specialist on Flight Dynamics, Dr. Vladimir Vinogadov, Engineer Designer on Control System.

^^in place of mocking the efforts by scientists of NAL. you could have act more maturely..is that too much to ask from a 3 yrs. old member of the forum..

Yes NAL called in MDB, but whats there to laugh about, If You have designed it, You would be able to rectify it, if those designs are not yours and no one has Used it before, how on earth can U make small changes, Or India should Re Design it....

Well basically it looks like Embraer/FMA CBA 123 Vector , so a help from them would be apt, even that dint go into production... We must scrap this and Work On with MTA and RTA-70

I fail to understand relevance of Emraer here. They are very successful aviation firm and no need to tag them along with NAL, who have yet to design, forget commercializing any thing.

You are Blindly criticizing Any thing and everything without even going through the post, where was I comparing? I said It would be great to take help from embraer as they had a project like this and so could discuss with them......

And it is NAL's first Aircraft Which they have taken up, NAL used to make simple trainers, but no aircrafts such as these....

Beautiful Saras... I Like this aircraft, not a bad design...

Yep true, nice design the Russian come up with, but unfortunately don't have the finances to pursue them.

Those who buy the design, are not qualified to commercialize, what a waste.

Oh Hahaha, Dear, would You allow me to Post some thing or would you keep on countering what ever I post..... And India would certainly commercialize it, To your Eyes we are Good for nothing, Are You happy Now?

And a Well Known secret I would share it with you, NAL dint buy Design, it was a Joint Venture between NAL and a Russian firm, they were out of Finance so they pulled out

And You dont need to express You anger and hatred to Poor people like me For Your country not exploring in such Fields.... What can I do for that?

And India's Two major Aerospace firms started to compete with Each other, That by itself is a good development.... NAL and HAL... NAL looking to make Light civilian aircraft such as Saras and RTA -70 and HAL Making MTA and MTA-passenger variant
