This is not an existential war for Russia, eventhough the russian propaganda machine is trying to frame it as such. They are simply trying to expand their territory. Its not possible for Putin to convince the entire population to fight for his palaces abroad. Some speculate that the withdrawal of regular Russian forces is part of plan by the Kremlin to get rid of wagner, as it has become such a torn in the side courtesy of its boss. Bakhmut is a great example of Russian bad military blunder. Wasted so many good solid brigades fighting pointless Bakhmut when they should have been better used on other parts of the long front,
