Russia's offensive in Bakhmut is pretty much out of steam. They won't be able to advance for a long time whether or not they capture bakhmut.

We have historical evidence that once Ukraine starts its counter offensives, Russian defenses just collapse and it loses huge chunks of its gains.

Bakhmut will become meaningless if Ukraine ends up once again steam rolling Russia again.

Russia should launch a large scale attack from the North towards Karkiv. That would throw the Ukrainian offensive right off track and dilute any offensive attempt.
