This should be no surprise to anybody, India's stated nuclear doctrine declares " any nuclear attack against it or its forces anywhere in world will be responded with a massive, unacceptable nuclear retaliation"

The sub-paragraph of interest of the press release subsequent to the Cabinet Committee on Security endorsing the nuclear doctrine of 04 Jan 03 reads: “(ii) A posture of “No First Use”: Nuclear weapons will only be used in retaliation against a nuclear attack on Indian territory or on Indian forces anywhere; (iii) Nuclear retaliation to a first strike will be massive and designed to inflict unacceptable damage.”

Well its a warning to Pakistan,to stay in its limits,else i have not seen other armed forces' chiefs' warning in such a staunch manner.And it makes sense.India can well rip apart Pakistan,if Pakistan goes offensive.

May be he is not talking in the context of a nulcear first strike from the Pak side, rather a first strike meaning the one who initiates the war, as PAF would be trying for a surprise strike before IAF does. Like the one in 65 or like how the Israelis did with the Arabs, taking them by surprise to get a few extra hours.

And even if he is taking this in the context of a nuclear strike, he has not mentioned that the Indian response would be massive in conventional manner or nuclear manner.

So, lot of ambiguity in this statement, but we all know that Pak is not gonna do any first strike on any Indian cities.

Maybe you are right , but once something is coming from indian side there is very less time to response and guess what nature it is ? non-nuke or nuke so the response back needs to be massive and in the shape of who knows what?????

on a serious note he said nothing wrong, you just need to see the context. Some reporter asked about Pakistan adding 24 missile and is it game changer, so it is expected he will put our response. So all he said is read the no first use policy document, which says if any country uses nukes against us. The response will be heavy.

It is just a response to a suggestion of "Surgical strikes within pakistan". The point is press on both sides puts these words into the mouths of army men. And then it uses their responses to sell their papers. No one on the Indian or the Pakistani sides wants war. It will inconvenience the generals too much and they will have to work for a changeagree:

Pakistan in case any miss-adventure from indian side will be treated with full scale..... and india will be no where on the map .... so play safe ...

its the media who puts words in the mouth of acm pv naik.......like the way it quoted out of context gen kapoor's statement about two front war......it does not matter pakistan or china or mongolia....any nuclear first strike will be answered with a massive second strike.....as for as pak army's statements....the statement of kayani who said...pak army is india-centric is enough to give us the intentions......

Well Indians are a very strange nation by looking at you guys, if you remember my post in another thread yesterday, i had asked either you or another Indian member to look at your ORBAT before telling us to see ours, India has massive numbers of troops, armor, airforce stationed towards Pakistan, all strike corps facing Pakistan, all 4 or so RAPID formations stationed against us, all the cold start doctrine being practiced in war simulations and on ground in shape of massive exercises just for Pakistan and even after all this, you say to us that we don't need to be India centric or we are being wrong in having an India centric mindset.

Either you guys don't want to understand or even if you guys do understand, it shows how much hypocrisy you guys show when blaming us for being India centric while neglecting your own designs.

You guys are the larger among both of us, and massively larger in military strength and quality wise too, but still accuse us being India centric. So the 3 strike corps, 4000+ tanks consisting of latest T-90s, Arjuns, T-72s, BMP IFVs, 4 or so RAPID formations and many more other divisions and corps based just across Pakistan and the massive exercises in the desert bordering both countries are for what China centric ??

Come on guys, till when are you guys gonna keep kidding your own selves and not see the reality that, you India being massive in numbers and quality are more Pakistan centric then we are.

I said, without being provoked. Do read carefully before answering.

This statement was after something of similar nature was said by the Indian side just after OBL raid.

Indian side issues such statements without being provoked, there is a difference.

Well said, that is why there are more of you Indians on a Pakistani Defence Site than Pakistanis. This is why open every Indian channel and its filled with news about Pakistan, actions speak louder than words buddy and clearly in this case your actions are not in line with your words.

exactly my point, if press asks questions about war, it will not be a peaceful response.

e.g. if someone ask you what will you do if slapped, there is no way you can respond differently.

How come adding of missiles which we are already doing for many years with Ra'ad, Babur and Hatf series missiles being commissioned requires such a statement.

He could have said something non-provocative, like we are doing the same, so no need to worry, we are big in quantity and quality, these missiles will do us no harm.

He is the Chief of a very large professional air force, he should have been more conscious of what he is gonna answer. We are adding missiles for last ten years, how come these 24 being added this year becomes a game changer.
