many have "joined" Bangladesh just because they had their entire families or extended families there. many Bengalis also remained in ex-West Pakistan.
United Pakistan's achilles heel was East Pakistan geographically and also socio-economically. Hindus dominated Muslims in Bengal throughout the 200 year colonial period. Hindus developed the "official forms" of Bengali culture and literature to be exclusively Hindu. Muslims lagged behind severely in education and capital.
it was not difficult for Hindus/India to manipulate Muslims that they have been doing particularly since 1947 to this day. even if we remained East Pakistan, it would be always manipulated by India. being East Pakistan did not stop the anti-Muslim movements of 1950s (aka "language movement") from taking place and it did not stop the subversive work of India-sponsored leftists that eventually led to the 1971 Indian takeover.
There are no evil Hindus in middle-east to manipulate Muslim brotherhead, but that didn't prevent the infighting, did it?
