Rana Plaza Collapse (huge life losses)

Well, it was RMGs who forced the workers into building even though it was clear that there is danger. Why blame Rana for it? because he is AL?

it was 'RANA' the owner of the factory and building who forced workers :pissed:

Politics is the core problem here and in every sector of Bangladesh. This is where it must be discussed. Crying over this thing won't matter anymore, its time to make sure this kind of situations don't happen anymore and that is why everyone must be aware of the **** these AL fags are doing.

You can not be more correct.

…..Should we talk only on the “rescue side” of the tragedy or also “the politics” that wrapped this sad episode ?

• Now, when the unfortunate want to discuss this heart rending issues and wrongs behind these (these are not only codes, but abuse of power, greed, mafiosi etc.), you come up like ‘Buddha’ with lofty advice “ let us talk humanity (or rescue only) , not by politics’ (the perpetrators). Why ? Is it for the sake of ‘humanity’ or to conceal your / your fraternities crime and faults ? As a result of the failure to discuss the crime & criminals in politics behind the event and of the delayed actions, Garments workers are now destroying more & more assets since last 2 days---apprehending that BAL is trying to fool the people one more time --- by giving ‘fox-like’ sermon to silence the other issues. These could be saved if “punitive actions, and analyses of the faults and defaulters alike could proceed side by side with the ongoing rescue mission.

• There is no ‘life’ without ‘politics’, and there is no ‘politics’ outside ‘life’. But you silence the Islamist by saying “No politics in religion’---and now ‘No politics while rescue is on’. You want “politics” also only on your terms so that you can use it as a tool for your convenience----as a monopoly. But days now definitely are changed----people are more conscious and alert. So they know which events are fully wrapped with politics, but the wrong-doers want “no discussion’ just to hide the skeleton inside the wardrobe by deceptive nice talking.

• Scene is changing….slowly but surely, though.

Great, AL succeeded. Our economy is done for now. all the progress we made for over 40 years gone.

…….I wish that above were not true. But, it is. BAL has managed it again to draw the nightmares of 2 different eras in serial.

• The ray kindled by the father finally died out by the wrongs of the daughter.

• Gone with the wind, meanwhile, the immense Garments Industry empire that sons of the soil built laboriously bit by bit---braving all odds with ingenious entrepreneurship

• That too bearing the curse of the world over twitter and social media…due to faults and mismanagement of BAL.

• What is the next deadly “gift’ from BAL ? The envoys from several Islamic countries are awaiting appointment since last few days to see the “Daughter”. Does it going to lead to drying up the “Remittance”, the life line of Bangladesh---just along with the demise of “Garments”----the source of earning from sweats of the millions ?

• Only to make Bangladesh the ‘Reserve land for BAL, its Father and his Daughter’ ? You are thousand welcome!!

No one could perhaps foresee such a Hollywood movie style calamity was waiting inside that nine storied building. The base line is, this building was allowed by the govt authorities to be built without a proper design and construction procedure. The construction materials were also sub-standard. The govt watchdog agency is responsible that quality control is absent in the cement factories.

Agreed to some extent. But, how many such buildings are there in BD? when were they built? What actions did opposition take when they were in power? is it only Rana's fault or he is being made a scapegoat for his political affiliation? When the govt watchdog declared the building unsuitable, how come RMGs forced their workers back in? What is their responsibility? what is their political affiliations and who are they? too many questions, isn't it?

Our people like to start and believe in gossips. Same is with Tazrin disaster that burnt about 120 workers alive by fire that engulfed the entire building. When I was in Dhaka in December and January, I lived on the 8th floor of an apartment building. I noticed no emergency exit in that building, nor in other nearby high-rise buildings.

After the fire deaths in Tazrin garments factory, BD people finger pointed at the Owner of that factory, although I will blame the Owner for not keeping even the main door open. The reality is, there is no rule in BD or every one bypasses a rule to provide EMERGENCY EXIT (EE) to his building.

In my case, I would not have been able to get out to the street if a fire broke out in a floor below my one, because there was no EE. It is not provided in any of the buildings in Dhaka and BD. So, we must be rational in our assessment of the situation.

In all the western non-Muslim countries, the local Fire Department requires a building with certain number of floors to be provided with Emergency Exists. But, neither Tazrin nor any others provide such a facility because it is not codified in the building laws of Bangladesh. I think, BD must carefully review all the building laws in the Christian western countries and include those provisions in our own country.

For over a decade garment buyers have required factories to comply with local labor laws plus some extra work place safety and health & hygiene standards as a condition for placing orders. Consequently factories started hiring compliance officers. A lot have improved since then. Many factories organize fire drills once a month, workers are trained in fire controll, safe exit, first-aid etc. Health and hygiene practices/facilities have been introduced that were never there before. Compliance audits are routinely done by third party to ensure impartiality. In spite of that many factories don't comply with many of the labor laws, rather they employ a compliance officer mostly to get by with a lot of non-compliance, for example, for preparing false in-compliance salary sheets, to train workers what to say in an interview in case of an audit, and to take other urgent but temporary steps to stage a show of compliance in case of an audit or a buyer's visit.

Majority workers are illiterate and not disciplined enough. They are prone to act according to their whims. They would frequently use an unguarded emergency exit or lavatories to take a puff of cigarette. Often an open window or the emergency door is used to throw stolen goods outside. Many factories don't employ enough number of guards to cut down on security expenses. Sometimes the lazy guards tend to take a rest or even a nap. For these reasons, compromising the safety and work-place environment, in some factories emergency exits are kept locked, windows are kept closed and entry to lavatories is regulated.

Every factory employs a number of workers and sets up a number of machines disproportionately high compared to its available space. A lot of non-compliance issues arise singly due to this, which the owners can't afford to rectify unless they hire more space- understandably one thing they resist to do.

Lastly, many buyers are aware of all these violations, but since they haven't come to fight a war but to do business, having done a risk-gain analysis reluctantly they give up.

327 dead, 15 more rescued, another 50 traced alive- given food and water- are expected to be rescued by tomorrow morning.

@ This Rana was a Terror in Savar. He was the right hand of AL MP Murad Jang. This Rana was also inside the builing at the basement and convening a political meeting. Others labour s also started coming from various direction. Rana was about to bring a big rtally against "Hartal" called by the opposition. Ar around 0845 am the building collasped but Rana and his political associated miracally saved as all of them were at the basement. Rana and his group was there till 12 O Clock. From their he rang Muead Jang for his rescue. Soon private and political rescue parties started coming at the spost. Sohel Rana and its groups were silently rescued and took away to unknown locations.

@ Today(26 Apr) at around 4 pm I heard that the airport authories caught him at the airport. Soon he rang Murad Jang. Murad Jang at once went to airport but failed to rescue him. Then obviously he rang upstair then Sohel Rana was cleared and he silently fled away. On the other hand all of a sudden top AL ministers are shouting for the immediate arrest of SOhel Rana and other Garments owners.

Thank you for telling the true story behind the scenes. Hope this answers all questions why Rana and Awami League are being blamed for this disaster. It looks like Rana forced these workers to come to this cracked building threatening to withhold one month salary, as I read before, just so he could use these workers for a political rally against the opposition hartal (shutdown)? Or was the purpose to show that factories are running despite the hartal? Anyone please let us know if you know the answers.

Now he fled the country with AL intervention from the top, it seems, despite being caught at the airport.

While BAL is urging everyone not to do 'politics' with the 'tragedy', Rana has just conveniently crossed the border with Tk.230 million. What a deception in the spirit of Muktijuddha !! See www.bdtoday.com BREAKING NEWS

I doubt that. He is still at large in Dhaka..found this photo..
