Ram Jethmalani's comments anger Saudi ambassador - India - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Senior lawyer and former Union minister Ram Jethmalani's charge that Wahabi sect was responsible for terrorism provoked a walkout by Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to India Faisal-al-Trad from an international conference of jurists on global terror here.
Watched the news on NDTV.
Watch the video, very interesting comments.

Now blaming India's internal problems on Wahabism? This Ram guy is totally whack and disillusioned. Haha

To say that Wahabism is the primary cause of all problems in the Islamic world is a pretty narrow-minded tunnel view.

How disrespectful is it to insult your Chief guest and his country so bluntly like that. Anyone with an iota of love for his country would have walked off. The Saudi ambassador did the right thing. Such Indians should be taught a lesson.

Firstly Saudi ambassador was not a chief guest, It was a conference on legal issues.
Secondly - Mr. Ram Jetmalani was not saying wahabism is cause of india's internal troubles.

Whabism is cause of trouble to a large extent in Afghanistan and pakistan.

Saudi ambassador could not take the truth anymore and left the conference.

What lessons are you talking about teaching to India ? May be TTP is teaching few lessons in Pakistan for supporting wahabism in Pak.

NEW DELHI: Several Muslim organisations on Tuesday came together to protest the “Wahabi Talibani terrorism” in Pakistan which they blamed for the recent killing of India-born Mufti Sarfaraz Naeemi in Lahore and several other scholars. Most of the participants in the protest at Jantar Mantar were Barelvi Muslims or Sunni Muslims with Sufi leanings.

Raza Academy, Muslim Students Organisation of India (MSO), Islamic Education Board of India, All India Qazi Council and New Age Media Centre were some of the organisations which carried out the protest. “We came together to protest the ongoing killings of Sunni scholars by the Wahabi Talibani terrorists in Pakistan. The killing of Mufti Sarfaraz Naeemi of Jamia Naeemia is enough to reveal their agenda against moderate majority Sunni Muslims,” said Shahnawaz Warsi, the chief of MSO.

Other leaders said they refused to acknowledge the Taliban because of its inhuman and unIslamic activities. “We declare them terrorists and a bunch of dacoits,” they said in a statement, adding that the Pakistani government must punish those responsible for these killings.

“We support the Pakistani government in its war against these terrorists. Terrorists are nothing but enemy of Islam and have presented their distorted version of Islam,” said convenor Saeed Noori. The leaders also condemned the decision by Taliban to demand religious tax (jiziya) from Sikhs and said Taliban posed a potent threat to India.

“We also want the Indian government to provide adequate security to Ajmer Sharif urs. These terrorists may cause damage to the place,” said another leader.

Saudi ambassador could not take the truth anymore and left the conference.

Looks like this Ram guy reflecting on how indian govt and people REALLY view Saudi Arabia. And your comments further supports indian view on Saudi.

Saudi Ambassador should convey this indian view to his boss Prince Abdullah and should adjust Saudi relation with india accordingly including oil, manpower etc.

Is god a brothel keeper, wonders ex-law minister and triggers row
Former union law minister Ram Jethmalani Saturday kicked up a row at an international conference on terrorism, asking if Islam's jehadi doctrine does not virtually render 'god a brothel keeper', prompting a Saudi Arabian envoy to walk out of the conference.

From correspondents in Delhi, India, 21 Nov 2009 8:04 PM - (Latest news from India - India eNews)

Former union law minister Ram Jethmalani Saturday kicked up a row at an international conference on terrorism, asking if Islam's jehadi doctrine does not virtually render 'god a brothel keeper', prompting a Saudi Arabian envoy to walk out of the conference.

Addressing the seminar, Jethmalani wondered if the jehadi doctrine, propagating the belief allegedly held by Islam's Wahab sect that Muslims attaining martyrdom while fighting non-Muslims 'get a place in heaven and the company of the opposite sex there', does not amount to saying that 'god is a brothel keeper'.

The self-confessed maverick legal hawk also went on to equate god as someone 'suffering with Alzheimer's disease', while advising the Indian government and the international community against trusting god in fighting terrorism.

'He will not help as he is suffering with Alzheimer's disease,' said Jethmalani, while advising the government to junk its obsession with 'an irrelevant non-aligned movement' and 'join the forces of good to fight forces of evil'.

Jethmalani made 'the non-mincing' remarks at an international conference of jurists on terrorism, inaugurated by President Pratibha Patil and attended among others by Singapore Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong and Justice Awn S Al-Khasawneh of the International Court of Justice and envoys of several countries.

Jethmalani's remarks caused Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to India Faisal-al-Trad to walk out, while an embarrassed union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily swiftly sought to distance himself and the government from the controversial remarks.

Justice Khasawneh contradicted Jethmalani on some facts referred to by him on the jehadi doctrine.

Jethmalani made the remark while dwelling upon the need to fight terrorism also at its ideological level.

'I am a student of all religions, including Islam and I have read the Koran several times. I find that the Prophet is a man of peace,' said Jethmalani, adding that it nowhere preaches hate and violence.

'But the decline of Islam started in the 17th century when a person named Wahab propagated hate and violence against all non-Muslims by mis-interpreting one shora (verse) of the Koran,' said Jethmalani.

'I have read that shora thousands of times, but I have not found anything wrong in it. But, according to Wahab, all other people, including Christians, Jews and Hindus, and even Shias have forfeited their rights to live,' said Jethmalani.

Following Jethmalani's speech, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador Faisal-al-Trad was seen walking out of the conference, apparently taking offence at the remarks.

Organiser of the event Adesh Aggarwala said the ambassador had walked out but returned after Moily's statement that the views expressed by Jethmalani were not that of the government.

Moily, in his address, said that terrorism cannot be attributed to any particular religion.

It was unfortunate that the entire Islam as a religion was being blamed for terrorism, Jethmalani said, adding that 'there are also Hindu terrorists and Buddhist terrorists'.

Terming the Non-Aligned Movement and Panchsheel as evil, Jethmalani said 'India should align with forces of good to combat the forces of evil. India and its foreign ministers must learn to reassess the doctrines of past.'

He said India's foreign policy establishment should be courageous to shun any relationship with the country's 'enemies'.

Referring to Jethmalani's comments, Justice Awn S Al-Khasawneh, a judge of the International Court of Justice, asked him not 'to make sweeping statements'. He also said that the Wahab movement had started in the 18th century and not in 17th century as Jethmalani had remarked.

Mind your language ok..You have no right to call others names..Reported your post..If you have anything valuable to counter his points do it..

First of all Jethmalani is advocate of all terrorist captured in India including master mind of Parliament attack.

Second, India is democratic country. This is why you see strike, rallies, etc.

First of all I am not advocating him..second of all an ex-law minister doesn't represent the views of the government or India...Bashing about others religion is not justified but it was not the main point his speech..He was talking about Wahabi's terror support...

For me I think he said some truth that the world knows but didnt had the guts to say about the terrorists get support from Saudi and Middle East be it financial or any other ..In another thread you can see Pakistani members also has the same point of view about the Salafi Arabs promoting terrorists..dare to call them Bigots too??..Some nice articles posted by them you should read it before making a blind statement about Indian extremism..
