The race to become caretaker prime minister

On the one hand, a man favored by the international establishment in the Western leadership, Jalil Abbas Jilani, and on the other, a favorite of the generals, Raheel Sharif, are in a head-to-head race to become caretaker prime minister. The importance of the competition becomes even more when no one knows the duration of the caretaker government and it is being said that the mode of conducting elections is neither of the Pakistani establishment nor of the international establishment.

Former Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani has close ties with the US, UK, EU, Australia and especially India, he was Pakistan's ambassador to most of these countries/regions before retiring as Foreign Secretary. He has also been looking after the South Asia Desk in the Foreign Office of Pakistan. This means they have close ties with the international and Indian establishment. Although he was branded an uncivilized figure in India and asked to leave India for political expediency, he maintained his bilateral relations in New Delhi.
If this becomes a reality, it is both good and bad news, as he will join the caretaker prime minister's office with the weight of the international establishment behind him and will not be subject to the whims of a short-sighted military junta. Whether they will accept Indian hegemony remains to be seen and that will be bad news for many patriots.

The current army chief Asim Munir tried to make his own criminal friend Mohsin Baig the caretaker prime minister but could not succeed due to Mr. Baig's criminal record in both the US and Pakistan. The military junta also vehemently rejected the idea, which was mooted by ISI-backed newspapers last month.

The ruling political parties came up with their own candidates for the post, but those who understand Pakistani politics know well that ultimately such decisions are made between the US-led Western international establishment and Pakistan's military junta.

Pakistan's military junta recently floated the name of Saudi-backed General Raheel Sharif, whose appointment the jury is still out on. General Raheel Sharif is a natural choice for the generals in Rawalpindi, who is stationed in Saudi Arabia as an adviser to the crown prince and under a formal appointment as commander-in-chief of the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition, a 41-nation alliance of Muslims. Yes, Pakistan's army chief has been in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia since his retirement in 2016.

Saudi Arabia is the natural front-runner/choice for the GHQ (General Headquarters) due to its current growing close ties with China, and the relatively good reputation of retired General Raheel Sharif in Pakistan's military community. Beijing will also support General Raheel Sharif for the above reasons.

However, this is a match between the international and the Pakistani military establishment where Pakistan's local military establishment is on a weak wicket which is being unceasingly hated by the Pakistani people for destroying Pakistan's democracy.
The Pakistani establishment does not seem to be in a position to exercise its will for destroying democracy in the country and committing serious human rights violations against the most popular political party, PTI, and the most popular leader, Imran Khan.

The appointment of former Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani will mean that the international agenda, led by the West, will succeed in making India a regional counterweight/monopoly to China. Credit goes to the greed of Pakistani generals, who overthrew Imran Khan's government, who were clearly working to protect Pakistan's national interests before anything else.

The military junta, however, will try to play its usual double game with China, as it has been busy profiting from superpower rivalries since Pakistan's inception.

Pakistan's economy is expected to improve under the caretaker setup under Ambassador Jilani's presidency, especially since the international establishment is not interested in further destabilizing Pakistan, which has resulted in the world's largest humanitarian and refugee crisis. A crisis will arise. Because of which it will pose a scary and serious problem especially for the European Union...

Jillani is also a cousin or relative of Yousuf Raza Gilani, and is seen as close to PPP as well if I am not mistaken.

It seems they want Bilawal for next PM.

Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Senator Anwaarul Haq Kakar has been chosen as the interim prime minister of Pakistan. His job is to keep the country running between the dissolution of parliament and the new government being sworn in.

According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the much-anticipated announcement came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and outgoing Opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Raja Riaz reached a consensus over Kakar’s name for the coveted post during a meeting in Islamabad today.

Subsequently, the two leaders sent an advice regarding Kakar’s appointment as the caretaker prime minister to President Arif Alvi, who shortly afterwards accorded his assent.

“President Dr Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Anwaarul Haque Kakar as caretaker prime minister. The president approved the appointment under Article 224-A of the Constitution,” a statement by the Aiwan-e-Sadr said.

Earlier, in a media talk outside the Prime Minister’s House after meeting PM Shehbaz, Riaz also confirmed that Kakar had been picked to head the interim set-up.

“We had earlier decided that the caretaker PM should be someone from a smaller province and a non-controversial personality. Our aim was to remove the sense of deprivation in small provinces.

“We have finally reached a consensus that Anwaarul Haq Kakar will be the caretaker PM,” Riaz said.

“I had given this name and the PM has consented to this name … I and the PM have signed on the summary,” he told reporters, adding Kakar would be sworn in tomorrow (Sunday).

Riaz added that a discussion on the caretaker cabinet was not held in his meeting with PM Shehbaz today.

Who is Anwaarul Haq Kakar?
Anwaarul Haq Kakar was elected as an independent senator from Balochistan in 2018, clinching a six-year term that will conclude in March 2024.

Simultaneously, he worked as chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, and as a member of the Business Advisory Committee, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology.

Kakar also undertook the role of parliamentary leader for the Balochistan Awami Party — formed in 2018 — within the Senate.

Kakar navigated this leadership position for a considerable five-year duration. Nonetheless, a mere five months ago, the party resolved to opt for new leadership, leading to his replacement.

Reactions
Reacting to the development, former information minister and ex-PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said Kakar was an “honest, educated and modest” Pakistani.

“After a long time, some good news has come for Pakistan. May God be your supporter and bless this decision for Pakistan,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi welcomed the development and congratulated Kakar. “PPP left it to PM Shehbaz to nominate [caretaker] PM with the consultation of opposition leader.

“Hope under his leadership Election Commission will conduct free and fair elections,” he added.

Contrary to his peer Kundi, PPP’s Khursheed Shah opposed Karachi’s selection and said, “We were not aware that Anwaarul Haq’s name will be finalised, and it would have been better if another person was selected for the post.”

However, he added, “Anwaarul Haq Kakar would be remembered if he succeeds in ensuring transparent elections.

Shah told Dawn.com over the phone that the PPP had proposed five names for the interim PM, which did not include Kakar. He shared four names he said were recommended by the PPP — Salim Abbas Jilani, Jalil Abbas Jilani, Muhammad Malik and Afzal Khan.

“Whoever proposed his (Kakar) name, we should hope for good,” the PPP leader said.

Deliberations on caretaker premier
The process for the appointment of the caretaker PM kicked off a day after the premature dissolution of the National Assembly on Aug 9. The first meeting between PM Shehbaz and Raja Riaz was held on Aug 10 wherein both the leaders exchanged a list of probable candidates for the coveted slot.

The second round of consultations was held last night during a dinner hosted by PM Shehbaz for leaders of the outgoing ruling alliance.

Subsequently, PM Shehbaz had expressed confidence that the name of the head of the interim set-up would be finalised by Saturday.

Sources privy to the current political situation told Dawn that the delay in nominating a caretaker prime minister was apparently because Raja Riaz, generally believed to be a “friendly opposition leader”, came out to be a different man, as he had been insisting on his candidate instead of agreeing to the names suggested by the PML-N.

Sources said PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif was insisting, through PM Shehbaz Sharif, on former finance minister Ishaq Dar to be picked as caretaker premier, and if not Dar, then former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

However, Riaz, a PTI dissident with no backing of a political party, was getting dictation from another power corridor and insisting on the name of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, sources claimed. Sanjrani called on Riaz on Friday, as well as Dar and Ahsan Iqbal.

does it even matters who comes ....... caretakers dont have any power nor they are taken seriousl by anyone. Whatever establishment wants, will happen

One man spends 25 years of his life to lead nation , is locked up in Prison for following constitution and expecting elections on time.

And these friends of friends , have no back ground , can just become prime minister care taker in 2-3 days

Let us have a dinner meeting , oh How about we pick this lallo as Care taker PM ?

sorry to say, but i think He has left us Pakistanis on our own.
Is there any reward for good (Ihsan) other than good - Sura Ar-Rahman (Ayet#60)

Don't lose your heart. Pak was built on the Iman and Ihsan of the ADAM like Jinnah and Iqbal, not due to the treachery and high crime of these maggot-sized Fasik and Munafik scums. Insha'Allah it won't get lost by HIS GRACE and MERCY....
