RAFALE´s objective in the current MMRCA program (as well as in a future Indian Navy combat aircraft program ) is therefore double:

on the one hand, to offer Indian forces an up-to-date entirely multi role combat aircraft at level with India’s political and military importance during the first half of the century.
on the other hand, to provide Indian industry with a production license and a comprehensive set of technologies requested for the production of a “national” combat aircraft.

The aim of the RAFALE candidacy for the MMRCA program is to provide the Indian Air Force (and later Indian Navy when a similar combat aircraft program is launched) with a combat aircraft at par with the political and military rank of India in the coming decades, able to ensure and to maintain the local air superiority of India.

Question to all - what is this future Indian Navy combat aircraft program? Other than some of us on forums rooting for F-35 for our navy, we've not heard any one of significance talk about it.

.
other then eft any plane can vtol ? we have to replace our sea harrier .... or its of no significans i mean VTOL

Sorry i was under impression EFT cant VTOL or im ignorant about the fact that EFT can VTOL???????
or u have messed EFT with F 35, plz clarify......

Nope, EFT or Rafale both can't do VTOL, only F-35 has that capability.

Rafale is capable of CATOBAR ( does it on Charles de Gaulle ). The Vikrant class IAC 1 is STOBAR (just like Vikramaditya), so not sure if Rafale can take off.

The next IAC, INS Vishal - a 65,000 tonne vessel, is speculated to be a CATOBAR carrier.

Rafale can join there for sure.

Sancho, others?

.
India will be having the CATOBAR facility on IAC 3 and may be further carriers, the main intensions of neval MRCA is for the 2nd & 3rd IAC.

please chek this video i am not been able to see this video cause my net is down it says 4 Eurofighter Typhoons from 6 Squadron make a vertical takeoff from Leuchars Air show.
just saw it but initial take off is not shown which means it is not a vtol n got something on the net for u

Eurofighter is looking into future variants that can land on carriers, but is currently more focused on enhancing its existing capabilities. Even though it has an arrestor hook, it is for emergency runway landings if the brakes/parachute fail.
The biggest issue with VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) is that you must produce more thrust than the aircraft weighs. In order to achieve this with a full weapons load, the Typhoon must produce in excess of 50,000 lbs of thrust just to get it off the ground. This is currently very difficult to do even with vectored thrust engines like the Harrier, and fan-lift engines like the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

It's the N-MMRCA competition, searching for carrier fighters for IAC2. Likely options, upgraded Mig 29K, Rafale M, F18SH, F35C, naval EF and Gripen had only chances if they would be selected for IAF too.

Since the size, weight and thrust specs of Rafale M are similar to Mig 29Ks, I don't see why it couldn't be used on STOBAR carriers, but I can't confirm it. The only problem of Rafale M is the fixed wing design, which requires more space on deck and hangar to park it.

Leuchars Air Show 2011 Eurofighter Typhoon Vertical Takeoff - YouTube

please chek this video i am not been able to see this video cause my net is down it says 4 Eurofighter Typhoons from 6 Squadron make a vertical takeoff from Leuchars Air show.

The guy who posted this on youtube is an idiot. Does not know the difference between a vertical take off and a vertical climb.

BltZ is right. EFT has not yet come out with a carrier version. The Rafale does have a carrier version and it is a CATOBAR. It uses catapults to launch and arrestor wires to land. The IAC 3 maybe a CATOBAR carrier, we don't know yet for sure. The Rafale can't use the Vikramaditya as it has a ski jump ramp and no catapults. The F-35B is a STOVL fighter but it is experiencing problems related to very limited range, low payload high cost etc.

.
The program in question is the IN N-MMRCA for which RFIs went out in 2010. This program is for advanced naval fighters to operate from future IN ACCs (IAC 2-) as IAC-1 and Vikramditya already have full air wings of Mig-29Ks. The contenders are Rafale-M, F-18 SH-IN, SeaGripen and N-EFT (IN also are apperntly VERY interested in F-35). The selection will be heavily influenced on the configuration of IN ACC IAC 2-, if they are CATOBAR (as they are speculated to be with EMALS) then N-EFT and problem F-35B are out immediately (STOBAR configured). If they are STOBAR configured (unlikely) then F-18, Rafale-M and F-35C are out (SeaGripen can supposedly operate off either config). I wouldn't be expecting a decision for atleast another 2-3 years given the timeline for commissioning IAC 2.

.
I think for STOBAR-Sea gripen will be cheap, effective and fit for INs need, little bigger than N-LCA
for CATOBAR- F-18 SH-IN will be good and i think this time US will offer it with less or no strings attached.
F-35 should be thrown out of the picture(too expensive) and we should look forward to N-FGFA or if possilbe N-AMCA(both if planned).

.
Here are some thoughts on this whole N-MMRCA issue.....

1. Much depends on the configuration IN chooses for IAC 2. While many think it will not have a catapult, we can never be sure till the details of the design emerge.

2. If we do not have the cats on IAC 2 , then F 35 B and MiG 29K++ will have to fight it out. This deal would be for the US to loose.

3. If we think about the IAC-3, which by all reports will surely have a catapult; then the field is wide open with Rafale, EFT and even N-FGFA will have a hat in the ring.

4. For future beyond 2025, when IAC-3 would be 2-3 years since commissioning (hopefully); we can also think about N-AMCA.

P.S. I do remember some ramblings about the Rafale being capable of STOBAR with some modifictions. If so, that would change the game. I'll see if something can be dredged up on this and get back!

.
It should be able to takeoff from carriers of STOBAR configuration, as the closely coupled canards generates more lift adding it with its higher thrust engine.

It even contributes in lessening the take-off distance in runways.

What to consider for selecting Navy Plane
1 Better navigation and avkonics for find targets on see.
2 Capability to find some extent submarines etc.
3 Better akr to air capacity to save ships
4 less space
5 capacity to fly and cover more range
6 must be such that India may use present fighters as materials maintenance etc so no need other extra facility
7 less cost effective life
8 political relation ship
9 pilots useto with other craft in airforce so no need extra training of flying
10 better weapons for air to surface , under sea and air capacity
11 consider need of VTOL
capable to find new tech stealthy of raddar or r infrared signature
12 short takeoff landing fly with more load and weapons
13 high speed to reach target l
