‘Rafale is as good as any 5th-generation aircraft’: French defence minister

It's our Govt., our money, our choice....why someone who is confused about his own identity is bothering about it? Don't you have any other work other than trolling on Indian topics?

We know what generation Rafale is, that's why we are also developing PAK-FA/FGFA.

And Rafale is the best "medium multi-role" fighter that is available for sale at this moment.

F-35 is medium multi role aircraft and its a 5th generation plane.

Ok, Let me correctmy frnd there. We were looking for 4.5 Gen MMRCA and we chose the best. and USA would not agree for full ToT.

F-35 doesn't suit our needs.

F-22: The best, but not for sale.
Typhoon: Very good in A2A, poor in A2G
F-35: Not as stealthy as F-22, not good in A2A, designed as a striker. In fact, F-35 will be escorted by Typhoon in battlefield.
Gripen: More on the lighter category, same for Mig 35. We are working on AMCA in the same category.
F-18/F-16: Older tech compared to the latest ones.
J-10: LAVI copy (Israeli F-16 variant), J-11: Flanker copy....not interested. JF-17: Thanks but NO.

Plus, we are already using Mirage, and have a long-term trustworthy friendly relation with French. French & Russians were the only ones who didn't impose sanctions on us after N-tests, they are reliable partners. We don't forget. :)

Correct, because we have the best technology out there. We already have iron dome like interceptor weapons that uses rail guns.

why would F-35 needs typhoon escort. Then the enemy would know that the planes are be coming as Typhoon is radar visible and F-35 has much more stealth.

Have they? - wait a while.

Most Rafales will be made in India, under technology transfer.

That's what the rumours are circulating.

Other rumours are that PRC is buying Su-35s totally made in Russia with nil technology transfer.

China is not getting any TOT as they can reverse engineer and improved upon an existing product. India is not capable of improve upon a system while getting TOT. Worse yet, India is not capable of maintaining planes as they turn into flying coffins.

Getting a little too high on his horse,in terms of avionics and Electronics yes.But not stealth ,also nose needs to be redesigned to accomodate a AESA radar that can compete with 5gen designs.

It is the the usual marketing pitch. It is not 5th gen for reasons. If, indeed, it was "just as good" it would have been in the fifth gen category. India would not have partnered the Russians on the T-50. I am sure India is not as gullible as this man, Jean-Yves Le Drian, thinks.

This is the problem with India. Despite spending half their government budget on military and military-related things, India still cannot reverse engineer. Even Iran can do this. Pretty much all of India's 'indigenous' weapons are assembled by foreign experts from imported foreign components.

Worst of all is that their military don't know how to operate the weapons they import, this is proven by the fact that the Indian airforce has a shameful crash record. I don't see this changing for another couple of decades atleast.

Unless India learns how to make components by themselves, their dream of catching up with China will remain just that.....a dream!

Stopped reading seriously.Reverse engineering is for thieves and sanctioned states,we get license. No need to steal like chinese.

You have become a troll par excellence of late,in every indian thread.
Right IAF can't maintain planes.Show me one airforce that can fly 50 yr old airframes burnt out ,still manage high flying hrs and avoid crashes.

First, India don't know how to make reverse engineering, Second, you wouldn't dare because you're afraid of international sanction...even with thousand excuse, you won't flush away these two facts.

If you had the choice to buy the Rafale I would have seen Chinese place the same order. As you people are sanctioned by the European union and the US you have no other choice but to look at Russian weapons and reverse engineer stuff.

Sometime i feel like majority of indians here are from khangress party of india.... What chinese are doing here? Shows what chinese are worried. You idi0ts the rafale far better than J-20s fatty junk box. Dassualt rafale is true omni role jet fighter who did well among other jet fighters. Its semi-stealth and carries nuke warheads including it can change its role according to situation. No wonder why chinese are in panic.... France is the only country who would never impose ban on india. Israel the other and may be russia too. Rafale is as good as any 5th generation fighter.... Please do not compare it with chinese junk j-20s. They are just a fatty show piece. F-22 raptor fighter pilots wish was he want to fly dassualt rafale after getting beaten up in air....
The Aviationist » Rare video shows F-22 Raptor shot down by the French Rafale in mock air-to-air combat

It is the other way round, they reverse engineer so don't get any TOT. And improved what? Whose standards? Except for their own words, what benchmark has any Chinese military hardware passed? Why don't they pit their J11 et al against respective Sukhoi models in international competitions ?

India is not capable of improve upon a system while getting TOT. Worse yet, India is not capable of maintaining planes as they turn into flying coffins.

India is not capable of maintaining planes, you get this information from crash records of all Sukhois, Migs, Mirages, Jaguars, transport/tankers/AEW&C/helis. Care explaining which plane do you get this info from?

Manufactured under licence, not just assembled.

True... but as of right now? not really... also even the radar etc... will be imported even under the license...
