RAFALE deal to be signed in TEN DAYS

If you read Indian comments, it seems France is desperate to sell 36 aircraft. India is not desperate, its a self reliant super power.

Stink of arrogance with bliss of ignorance coupled with jingoistic bravado is a real quality.
And is your @ss burning? Lol

There are two sides to this leak. First, that there is an actual move forward on the negotiations and second if there is still a lag in it; pushing the Indian side to compromise on their demands based on the PR generated by strengthening Indian defence.
I don't see any lag here...deal for 36 rafale is pretty straight forward...but it's just the baniya attitude of us Indians...trying to force France to invest 50% of contract amount in India...which is not going to happen as it is a govt. To govt deal. And France are offering the same price as they are offering to its air force!!!

Even if, and thats a huge if, the deal is signed, 36 out of a possible 180+ order is pathetic. India should have bought the mirage 2000 line. This whole process is a disaster.

The new GoI had scrapped the MMRCA entirely pursuing a govt-govt deal entirely. As agreed upon by Modi and Hollande in April 36 will be procured off the shelf from France (as opposed to 18 under the MMRCA) and the MoD has issued a separate RFP for 90 fighters to be built in India in partnership with Dassualt (similar to the Avro replacement deal).

36+90=126
There is no new RFP till date, just rumours. It also makes less sense simply because why RFP to choose the same plane again. Just make a requirement specification and start negociating.
My assumption,
MMRCA is for 7 sqd.
MoD broke it down to 3 sqd of rafale and 4 sqd of FGFA (72 + 3 prototype). There will be additional one sqd on current 36 with IAF customization to make maintenance supply chain more feasible.(IAF's minimum of any perticular type of aircraft is 3 sqd)

The news about cooperation with the U.S. is 100% BS. There is ZERO chance of the F-16IN or any other previously ejected bidder emerging victorious now- this would be absurd. Think about it logically, now it is almost certain the IAF is getting 36 Rafales does it make sense from a logistics and maintenance point of view to induct such a measly number? No way. Has the IAF ever inducted such a pitifully small quantity of fighters? Why would it do so now it has more money than ever and also more demand than ever?

If you apply common sense it is more than clear what is going on here- the MMRCA in all but name.

I think we bought time with this deal. Will see how the PAK-FA takes shape.

IF the PAK-FA cost (Not FGFA) is less than or equal to Rafale, then it is good to go for more PAK-FAs than Rafales.

We are getting 144 FGFAs. (first batches will be PAK-FAs, later changed to FGFA). So the earlier PAK-FAs are fin with us, we can have 144 FGFAs and more 90 + PAKFAs, so the logistics cost part will be fine and we get jets more like F-35s.

its time to put a sock in it. India is not going to buy more than 36. And it will be off the shelf purchase. Rafael orders are getting traction.if it was tough getting any benefits when Dassault had no deals, it'd impossible now.
This deal may be a face saving move by mod,in that case most probably only 36 aircraft will fly for IAF.

The IAF will not be getting the PAK-FA, they want the FGFA- nothing less. And how could the PAK-FA cost less than the Rafale? This is pure speculation and nonsensical to say the least. As soon as India signs for 36 Rafales it is effectively signing for at least 126- if not 189. 36 Rafales only would lead to a massive waste of resources and would never be permitted by the IAF.

Taking just 36 makes no sense both from an economy of scale, logistics PoV and from the fact that the IAF fleet is ageing rapidly and if those required squadron strengths have to be maintained; more aircraft are needed.
The actual misfortune to befall the IAF and HAL both is the mismanagement of the Tejas program. Had it run as it should have, the MMRCA could have been curtailed and the IAF still could have bolstered its numbers by inducting more Tejas.

The initial 36 however look like a quick deal to avoid an overzealous CAG and get things started for the IAF while the local production deal is sorted out. That off course all actually depends on how far the rather money minded nations of India and France are willing to go in their effort to grab every last penny.
