It's actually PAK FA......also known as follow up Flanker.

Hardly a thing to worry, firstly the stealth capability & fifth generation features of J-31s are debatable as Chinese keeps things in secret, no one knows where it compares (if it really is fifth gen) to F-22/F-35/PAK-FA.

Secondly, even if PAF goes for it, it will take nearly 15 years for first planes to be inducted in PAF's inventory, i.e. post-2025, until than IAF will have FGFAs in very great nos. (80+).

Thirdly, IAF is planning AMCA as well & options for F-35s are also open (though i personally don't favor it).

Lastly & most important, until when PAF acquires J-31s, IAF will be a very very formidable force with the induction of Rafale + sukhoi-30s + LCA mark 2 + FGFA + mirage 2k (upgraded), so PAF is hardly a worry for IAF, IAF is competing currently (& in future) only with PLAAF.

Delays happen-that is the nature of such work. What India has been able to achieve with the LCA is immense and all this expertise and know-how will serve it well for the future. If the LCA is the base then g-damn India has a bright future in aerospace!

IMO, with just a tail-number to dazzle the world with, I seriously wouldn't bother with the J-XXs... Considering the secrecy with which PLA operates, it is a total departure with the slew of touted 5th gen fighters' pics being splashed all over defense forums.

What China wants the world to acknowledge is it is rising peacefully but rising nonetheless. For the world to not miss the rise part, they can't just go on gunning for their adversaries a.la the shoals off the vietnam coast so as not to totally piss it's relatively bigger opponents in it's region of concern, it is trying a more subtle approach. ie. Flaunting it's half baked prototypes all over the mass media for the world to take notice.. They are half baked at the moment yes but promising platforms !!

Let's take the example of J-31. Do you really believe that China, before fully developing its indigenous PROPER 5th gen fighter( J20 I am guessing), it is diverting its funds to develop an albeit toned down 5th gen fighter for Export ?? They sure as hell aren't lacking funds for the development and we all know how much charity China does. !!

The point is, with the billions they are pumping into RnD, they are obviously coming up with something serious that we are sure but whatever it is ( They are smart people ofc and not dumba$$es ), they are not gonna parade it like this. That is not something becoming of PLA.

But, they will need atleast nearly a decade at the very least to develop their 5th Gen fighter. And the reason being their ongoing struggle to make the j-11Bs operational. I am not even mentioning the saga of the WS-15 engines here. There is no need to get our pants in a twist. We all can just take our breath and can come up with something at our own pace !!

You are missing the whole psyche of my post dude, no one is attacking India.....but is it wise to just shoot in the dark...keeping in mind past experiences.
