I just read a couple of threads about fuel/energy shortages in Pakistan. I was wondering if Pakistanis think that it might be a prelude to a military take over, specially with how things have been going on recently in Pakistan. As with all military take overs, there are "signs" before it happens and such fuel shortages could be one of them as was the case in Egypt where fuel shortages happened and were blamed on Morsi, just before the military kicked out Morsi. Is there any such possibility in Pakistan?

Hmm. That's a very complicated question. But to answer you, no it is not a possibility especially at this juncture.

I just wondered since things seem to be moving rather fast. The military courts, shortages, etc.

army is not interested in taking over if they wanted to kick ganja out they would have done it during longmarch\dharna

I do not think so. At least if I was a General, I would not do so at such a time since I would not be able to claim the ownership of my action and credit would go to other parties. But then it is possible as you say.

Would be a welcome step. Civilian government in Pakistan give even dolls a bad name. If something tangible has to happen between Indo-Pak, the helm must be with the military instead of it giving orders to the civies from behind.

right now with the oil crisis public will welcome some *** whipping of politicians but lets say if there is coup de tat media particularly anti-establishment one will start the propaganda campaign to malign armed forces in every way possible our people are idiots they will believe every lie media will feed them
if that happens the very people army will throw out will become heroes or martyers

I see. I guess this is the difference with Egyptian situation since in Egypt the media was very pro-Army (at least most of the media). It allowed for their army chief to transition to presidency with ease.

There are two reasons for this shortfall as i have gathered
  • Spike in demand about 25% after the fall of prices
  • Oil Marketing Companies such as the PSO(owned by the federal govt.) and others importing less amount of oil in the preceding months to make most of falling prices.

With changing times, Pakistan Army has also changed in its approach and conduct, I think they have now realised that there is no need to send 111 every time to teach dumb politicians a lesson, recent activity and statements of our COAS suggest how critical matters are now under his control and policy making.

Shortage of any commodity is the height of civilian government incompetence nothing more. They have all their development priorities wrong.

No, such things happen a lot in Pakistan where price of things go down. So, this is no coup d'état

.
Military playing cool they don't want to impose a military marshal law we are already having it in Civil shape.

.
Situation will normalize in a week, oil tankers from middle east are supposed to arrive in 2-3 days.

Army will not intervene over such trivial issues. :cray:
