Qatar placed order for not only 100 Altay T2 but also 20 Firtina-II self propelled howitzers and 50 Kirpi-II MRAP bro. Altay T1 is in serial production phase and 40 unit will be delivered to Turkish Land Forces within 2 years. By 2021, BMC’s giant land vehicle manufacturing facility will start its production activities in Sakarya and The factory will not only serve for Turkish Army but also many other friendly nations from tracked to wheeled armored vehicles, tanks, turbo-diesel engines, transmission, civilian bus, trucks, missile carrier vehicles and fast train system. At present, Tanks will be produced in Arifiye Army’s own factory until new one activated for production.

Excellent decision. It is useless to buy western military products because they come with strict conditions and bindings. There is strong chance you will never be able to defend yourself against intruder if you have western equipments. Pakistan had learned the lesson hard way.

Not true in most wars using American tanks the U.S. did not really care and couldn't do anything against it. If Qatar wanted to conditions or bindings they could have gone to China or Russia. This definitely comes with conditions just you can't seem them and neither can I.

Just recently US said they will stop supply parts to Iraq and also it was wellknown they they made it hard for Egypt for parts... Egypt still doesnt have BWR missiles..

The problem with Egypt is Israel, not the U.S. Also, its probably because Iraqi soldiers have no clue how to use their equipment effectively even against Terrorist groups wielding RPGs.

Israel controls the U.S. arms deals in the middle east and not the U.S. and you would believe since with a flick of the. Again, the Iraqis should not be armed with American equipment since they frequently lose equipment to foreign countries like Iran for example and give valuable military equipment to other nations. Turkey has control on arms deals and conditions like for example if NATO pressured them or threatened sanctions they would stop supplying parts and logistics for say the Altay tank.

I hate this decision, in my opinion there are better options that would suit Qatar better. For Qatar the best option in my opinion is more Leopard 2A7s which because firstly less logistics costs with one universal system, and second of all a cheaper system with similar if not equal capabilities. The Altay is 13 million USD per unit system while the Leopard 2A6 is at about 5.74 million USD (add maybe 1 or 2 million for the 2A7) which really comes into effect when considering the number of units you can purchase with countries who's defense budget isn't huge like the U.S.

Price is clear and in favor of the Leopard
Leopard 2A7 cost for 100 units- 774 million 7.74 million per unit
Altay cost for 100 units- 1 billion 375 million. 13.75 million per unit.

I think I get what you are saying. Turkey will have sanctions if NATO or the US threatens sanctions they will cave in which kill Turkey's economy if sanctions are placed on it as seen before. The only place where you can go with no sanctions are indigenous even if Turkish members claim they "won't" have sanctions on vehicles they are unaware of the contracts details and unaware of the future.
