Wah Industries Limited (WIL) of Pakistan and Turkey's Repkon have signed a significant defense agreement to establish a mega-factory in Pakistan dedicated to producing 155mm artillery shells. This factory will feature a fully automated ammunition body production and filling line, with an impressive annual capacity of 120,000 units.

Key Details of the Agreement:

  • Investment and Production Capacity: The collaboration aims to enhance Pakistan's defense manufacturing capabilities by establishing a state-of-the-art facility capable of producing a high volume of artillery shells. The planned capacity of 120,000 shells per year is expected to meet both domestic needs and potential export opportunities.
  • Technological Advancements: The factory will utilize advanced automation technologies to streamline the production process, ensuring efficiency and precision in manufacturing artillery munitions. This move aligns with global trends in defense manufacturing, where automation is increasingly adopted to enhance production capabilities.
  • Strategic Importance: This partnership is strategically significant for Pakistan as it seeks to bolster its military capabilities amid regional security challenges. By developing local production facilities for critical defense equipment, Pakistan aims to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and enhance its self-sufficiency in defense.
  • Broader Defense Cooperation: The agreement between WIL and Repkon reflects growing defense ties between Turkey and Pakistan, two countries that have been strengthening their military cooperation in recent years. This partnership may pave the way for further collaborations in various defense sectors.
This development is expected to not only strengthen Pakistan's artillery capabilities but also contribute to the overall growth of its defense industry, enhancing national security and military readiness.
