GUJRANWALA: A Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporter detained in the recent police crackdown in Punjab died on Wednesday under mysterious circumstances in the central jail of Gujranwala city.

The 35-year-old Shoaib was a resident of the Noor Bawa area of Gujranwala and had left home on the eve of August 13 to attend the march following which he was detained. His family had however claimed that he went missing.

The relatives said that they searched for Shoaib following his disappearance but could not get any news of his whereabouts.

His family members moreover said that they were informed on Tuesday night about Shoaib's death by the central jail's administration in Gujranwala.

Subsequently, jail authorities handed the body to Shoaib's family after conducting a postmortem. A report of the post mortem is still to come.

Police sources claim he died due to a heart attack. However, his brother said that Shoaib was subjected to torture during his detention leading to his death.

Previously, the Punjab police had rounded up over 300 PAT activists across Punjab in the week-long crackdown under the 16 Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

Islamabad protests: Will Imran storm PM house?
By Dawn.com
Published 16 minutes ago
O O
threatened to storm the Prime Minister House if Nawaz Sharif does not resign before the expiry of a so-called deadline from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief. Moreover, Pakistan Awami Tehrik chief Tahirul Qadri has promised his followers that accountability would be ensured for the “corrupt” rulers.

The army has broken its silence and has publicly urged both the government and the protesting political parties to exercise restraint and find a way out of the crisis through dialogue.

But the silence from the prime minister has lasted far too long and there is no word on progress on negotiations between the two sides.

With little progress on a negotiated settlement and a continual upping of the ante from both sides, how will the crisis unfold? Will Imran storm the prime minister’s residence? Will the Nawaz camp come up with a solution? Or will there come a point when the army will step in?

Follow our updates from the day’s political happenings.

Ex-military men back call for dissolution of assemblies
The Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association, headed by Retired Vice Admiral Ahmed Tasnim, has jumped into the fray by supporting the call for dissolution of assemblies, formation of a caretaker government, introduction of electoral reforms and appointment of an independent election commission to hold fresh elections.

The association’s executive council held a meeting in Rawalpindi to discuss ‘current crises-like political situation prevailing in the country’. The participants said political leaders had failed to rise above party affiliations at the cost of country’s interests, says a press release issued by the association.

According to it, the government and parliament have failed to perform their institutional functions and fulfill their responsibilities to address serious issues being raised through public protests.

The ex-servicemen, who call themselves ‘former military strategists’ expressed concern at the failure of the government to implement orders of the additional session judge of Lahore to register the FIR of the Model Town killings, and termed it an instance of contempt of court and breach of fundamental rights of people enshrined in the constitution.

Opposition’s efforts get nowhere
The opposition parties failed in their efforts to reach out to the PTI and PAT and rumours went back and forth in the capital.

Syed Khursheed Shah, leader of opposition, who held a meeting with other opposition leaders on Monday and Tuesday, told the journalists waiting outside his office in the parliament that he, along with other political parties, was in favour of the supremacy of the constitution, parliament and democracy.

“Hence, we will try our best to facilitate mediation between the government and the PTI and PAT leaders,” he told the media.

He hastened to add: “Our efforts are to ensure the sanctity of the parliament and constitution and not to defend the government.”

When asked to explain, he said that the specific demands of PTI and PAT could only be addressed by the government.

“All we can do is get the two sides to the table, and we want to do this because we want the prevailing political crisis to be resolved so that the threat to the system goes away.”

However, he conceded that neither side was willing to bend — the government was not reaching out and the protesting parties were not willing to talk either.

“We repeatedly contacted the PTI MNAs who promised to check with their head about a meeting and get back, but none of them ever did.”

So now that imran has better footing then 3 days ago what will he demand. resignation wont happen. That is unrealistic but they can get these three things,

1. electoral reforms in 2018
2. Third party audit of 2013 elections.
3. Special privileges for kpk province.

As i said before when this march started this can actually make his march successful. After all of this a little successful.

See. Now its proven again that true source of power is people's power, not constitution or law or whatever other gimmicks of PMLN.

Resignation can happen after Qadri's men would reject moving from here until their demands are met: Arrest of Nawaz, Shahbaz and 21 others involved in Minhaj blunder.

Canada has like 12 provinces. Most provinces are bigger than Pakistan. Some twice as big as Pakistan.

No one says here to make provinces even smaller, despite a small population. Quebec and Ontario, two provinces make up nearly 2/3 of population of Canada. Yet still, almost every major party has a seat in every province. No one says "oh look, its a small provinces with few seats, let's not give a damn about it"
Mf look at the population provinces have to be diveded on bases off population

Khwja Saad Rafique denied the news. He said he has no twitter account and the news attributed to him is false

More then 24 hours have passed,
PTI MNA's resignations have not been submitted to Speaker National Assembly. Oh but who cares only Imran Khan Sacha....HYPOCRICY AT ITS PEAK.

chalo yar 200,000 banday a gaye --- 17 crore 98 lakh banday ke decision ko challenge kar rahe hain???..

Aik zero sir app na zayda laga dia ha yeh 20,000 hain..

For every person that has made it to Jalsa, there are 1000+ who didn't but support IK. They are at their homes but they are a supporter.

Even if crowd is 1 Lac+ (as per Moeen PirZada) then:-
100,000 * 1000 = 10 CROR supporters.
200,000 * 1000 = 20 CROR supporters.

& it wasn't opinion of of 17 CROR ppl. PML-N had "1.4 cror" votes (including rigged votes).
