Pakistan Navy Set To Receive American Spruance Class Destroyer

December 8, 2005: In a good news for Pakistan Navy United States House of Representatives has given its final approval for providing USS Fletcher to Pakistan and other ships to Turkey, Egypt, India and Greece. United States will provide a Spruance class destroyer USS Fletcher in military aid to Pakistan after President Bush’s approval.

USS Fletcher is currently docked on Pearl Harbor. Ship can carry a crew of 382 including 30 officers. One of the unique features of Spruance Class Destroyer is its ability to launch cruse missiles, analysis show that Pakistan navy will upgrade some of the systems to its requirements specially reconfiguring of existing onboard missile systems to carry ship based Babur cruse missile. In addition to wide array of armament ship can also carry two helicopters. Egypt will be given USS Raven and USS Cardinal while Greece will be provided a ship of the same category.

Since this ship is capable of launching tomahawks, i believe it will soon be capable of firing Babur. This ship is guarantee to fire Babur cruise missile if a Babur cruise missile is developed.

But for that i am wondering if there will be difficulties in integration. Since Pakistan has very little known capablity in this field. Pakistan should acquire help from Americans and since they are giving the ship, they can be paid for integration of various indeginious missiles and systems.

For getting the technology from Spruance class to F-22p for advancement purposes is also useful, but also a challange. U.S will not allow Chinese technicians to come and look at the ship, Pakistan will have to do it its own, otherwise it wants to get permission from U.S, but the answer for that will be obviously "no."

I was just wondering if this ship has capablity to have anti-submarines helicopter like F-22p and Type-21 Frigates have.

The Spruance Class Destroyers are one of the Deadliest Destroyers on the planet. They have advanced electronics and surveillance Capabilities. Along with these the Spruance class destroyers have the capasity to hold uptp 60 CRUISE MISSILES and 20+SAMS. The IN has no ship in its inventory to counter this ship.

This ship does not hold any helicopters since it doesn't need any thanxs to its advanced eletronics.Equiped with Baburs ASCM's this ship will almost Triple PN's capabilities.

I dont think we will be getting another type of helicoper, thats like a whole different platform.

I believe Z-9C and Lynx will do a good job, besides since the ship is free, it wont come with the helicopters even though it has capablity of carrying helicopter for anti-submarine role. This also gives me an idea on how Pakistan wants to have Chinese and Western technology.. Z-9C and Lynx..

the helicopters are the most important aspect of the ships ASW system.

we should try to nagotiate the helicopters if not them then at the least a kit which will give 3rd party helicopters the same ability.

we can use chinese hilicopters if not american as a bargaining chip.

what are your opinions isi?

Well Z-9C to be operated on American ship, doesn't look much difficult. However, the communication systems of the helicopter with ship maybe difficult to integrate, unless we modified the Spruance class communication system with Z-9C to make it achievable to do any task.

Going for the class of helicopter that goes with Spruance class like Sea Hawks will be difficult for Pakistan, as it would be very different, not to mention that the helicopter of that type is very hard to maintain.

Here is some information of the helicopter.

These helicopters have also performed in Afghanistan for transporting role. As i have seen it in the videos, etc. :uglystupid2:

the z9 does not have half the stuff the sea hawks have !!!

the sea hawks are the best ASW there is. and handle things from locating to elimintating the enemy craft. much of sprance class status for being the best asw out there at the moment is due to the sea hawk. with out the sea hawk its abilities are greatly reduced.

He mean to say Sea-King helicopters and not Sea-Hawk.

Sea-Hawk was a carrier based brit aircraft which IN was having for a while.

Sea-King heli is the one which both IN and PN has.

Thanks,

Miro

P.S: - I am sorry unless the author meant the navalised version of Black-Hawk

So are you saying they worth it? Even though they cost so much! :cheesy:

Very Old News..........., i read that it will cost $40 million annually to operate this decommissioned ship by the Pakistanis? Thats why decommiossioned military hardware are always free.

For gods sake its a 2.5 decades old class. And whats the use of just getting one of its class the cost of operation also is going to be on ahigh side.

The naval Babur(?) if modified to be integrated on to this ship then it will again have to modified to be fit on another class which is totally aburd and stupid.

Your country operates a 40 year old aircraft carrier, just bought a 30 year old carrier from Russia..... and you dont want Pakistan to have the pleasure of getting a lethal ship that is 20 years old??
