ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Imran Khan’s position toward the West is becoming increasingly defiant as he set to visit Russia from February 23 to 25 after completing his “historic visit to China” and attending the Beijing Olympics, which the US and several other western countries had boycotted.

Diplomatic sources confirmed on Sunday evening that the premier was expected to undertake the “all crucial” visit of Moscow in the last week of February -- the first by a Pakistani premier in over two decades. Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry refrained from confirming the development, saying that the foreign affairs ministry should be approached for this purpose.

The premier’s visit to Moscow is believed to be a clear signal to the West, especially after he clearly said “absolutely not” to Washington on giving bases in Pakistan following its withdrawal from Afghanistan and not receiving a phone call from US President Joe Biden since he assumed his office in the White House.
“Prime Minister Imran’s visit under the current circumstances is crucial,” a diplomat told The Express Tribune, requesting anonymity, while referring to the rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine and ultimately between Moscow and the West.

The diplomat further said PM Imran and Russian President Vladimir Putin would exchange views on bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. Recently, PM Imran while speaking to President Putin had lauded his statement on the issue of blasphemy.

In a telephonic conversation with Putin on January 17, PM Imran had underscored that Pakistan’s bilateral relationship with Russia was on an upward trajectory, with an increased focus on trade and economic ties and energy cooperation. He had reiterated the government’s resolve for early realisation of the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline Project. According to PM Imran, he and Putin had agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in different areas, increase high-level exchanges, and remain in close contact on matters relating to Afghanistan.

PM Imran had underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was pivotal for regional stability.
The official statement had attributed to the prime minister that he looked forward to President Putin’s visit to Pakistan as well as his own visit to Russia at an appropriate time. Now, the diplomatic sources have confirmed that the dates had been finalised and PM Imran and President Putin would be standing together in the last week of February if there are no last minute changes.

Following the diplomatic dispute between Russia and the West on Ukraine, Moscow has reoriented trade, seeking to replace Western imports and reducing its use of the US dollar. Putin’s recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping was also taken as a show of unity amid Moscow’s deteriorating relations with the West.
Last month, it was reported that Islamabad and Moscow were in talks to finalise a plan for what would be a landmark visit of the Russian president to Pakistan this year.

The visit was being discussed by the two sides for the last two years but could not be materialised because of a variety of reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic. For the visit, Moscow wanted to have something “significant” ready before Putin finally undertook his trip to Pakistan.

Pakistan is part of Shanghai Corporation , and China and Russia are two major players in this economic forum

It is important that Pakistan develops and enhances Pakistan-Russia Direct Ties

The focus is not on military and war but on Trade, we don't have policy to start war in Russia or Ukraine we hope for peaceful dialog

As a independent country it is 100% understandable why Russia is worried by dangerous weaponry place around it's borders in Ukraine

Pakistan-Russia Bilateral Ties are none of any other nation's concern as well
Those are also my sentiments.

However Russia has been quite supportive to India for a little while. I do not if that will change anytime soon.

However to normalize relations with Russia in the post Cold War era is a good idea.

China will be looking into this visit as well. May be perhaps they are behind this strategic summit. China is friends with Russia so naturally they want their ally to be friends with their friends as well. Had Pakistan delayed this meeting than it would had also not gone well with China. In a way China is also testing Pakistan that whether we are completely out from Western influence or not. More than Pakistan Russia, I am seeing China angle here.
Lets hope so that Pakistan gets out of western camp.

But Russia needs to be less supportive of India at the same time though

As I explained before on another thread which was deleted regarding this visit. Putin who desperately needs to look like "business as usual" as he invades Ukraine seems to have arranged a photo opportunity to show the world that even a "democratic" leader is delighted to visit Russia on a friendly visit.
Putin knew this all when he arranged for IK and his entourage of ministers to drop in.
It offers him a PR stunt as the Russian oligarchs invade a democratic European country.
Sad to see how Pakistani's, who knew what is taking place, decided to offer Putin a PR win while he crushes a country.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan landed in Moscow late on Wednesday on a two-day visit amid the ongoing crisis at the Ukraine-Russia border.

This comes as tension continues to escalate after Russia's recognition of eastern Ukrainian enclaves of Donetsk and Luhansk. As a response to Moscow's actions, several Western nations hit Russia with fresh sanctions for its military deployment into parts of eastern Ukraine.

Imran Khan's ill-timed visit, the first such trip by a Pakistani PM in 23 years, aims to push for the construction of a long-delayed, multi-billion-dollar gas pipeline to be built in collaboration with Russian companies.

The Pakistan Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit and discuss issues concerning economic cooperation.

Earlier, Pakistani media reports had said that Moscow and Islamabad were in talks to finalise a plan for Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit this year.

A Pakistani newspaper said Putin's visit was under discussion for the last two years but could not materialise because of several reasons, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Moscow also wants that there must be "big-ticket projects" that the Russian president would announce.

Before Imran Khan's departure, a Pakistani geopolitical analyst had pointed out that the visit did not come at a suitable time.

Analyst and Balochistan politician Jan Achakzai noted that Russia didn't seek Pakistan's support, nor did the US stop Pakistan from going to Moscow. He also said that Russia is not going to give Pakistan anything because Moscow losing India for the sake of Islamabad's support is not an option.

The Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Delhi on Wednesday stressed that Imran Khan's visit to Moscow would in no way affect relations between India and Russia.

Addressing an online briefing in New Delhi, he also welcomed India's stand at the Security Council on the ongoing developments in Ukraine.

The question is, why isn't India supporting Russia at most critical time? Another backstab moment? Your country India buys high-tech offensive weapons from Russia yet here you are spewing anti-Russian propaganda. Why don't you tell your European and American buddies to sanction Pakistan for visiting Russia?

Ukraine is more Russian than European. Your American masters are placing missiles next door to Russia. Why isn't India condemning US move to antagonize Russia?

it is possible if they are willing to shell out $80-100 million for an aircraft with export grade avionics & weapons (read:Inferior)

PAF damn care about such offers and if they demand won't compromise, inferior is the thing we have seen with millions of complaints and back log of supplies for IAF through out the history.

Imran Khan Putin meeting to last 2-3 hours :O as per media sources :O

It was to last 1 hr as per the schedule earlier

Is it really possible for Pakistan to get su35?
It does not make much sense to me for PAF to get Russian fighters.
PAF is well integrated into the Chinese fighter ecosystem through the production of JF17s.
If PAF ever feels dire need for a heavy 4++ gen fighter, J-16 would be the logical choice.
I know J-16 is not up for export yet but China can make an exception for Pakistan in the future if they insist.
